Unless you’re making big time money, frick this. One of the best days ever was when I paid off my truck. ‘07 Sierra that still runs perfectly. I’m reluctant to even look at new vehicles because I don’t want to pay a note again.

That's not a nice way to talk about your wife

I have a fuel efficient shitbox yaris to drive to work. And 4x4s and bikes to play on. The wife can have a luxury vehicle, her commute is under 20 miles. I put 40k a year minimum.

I typically buy mine around 3-4k and run them until someone hits me and totals them.

I did this too for a long time but finally broke down and bought a nicer car for the bluetooth re: music and podcasts. Aux cords weren't cutting it for me anymore.
Should have spent about $200 on an aftermarket radio and got the same thing and you could still be driving a daily beater.

What new car did you buy for 10K?

have you ever heard of a down payment? I'm just looking in terms of the note here and not even considering how much I put down. I wasn't thinking that far in to it

Personally, I'd rather chose the old reliable car and spend the $600 car payment money and put it towards a larger and nicer home.

a lot of people say this, but i don't see too many nice homes with 94 civic's in the garage

You could have just said "Im insecure" and saved some time.

This may very well be the only thing that gets me out of my 13 yo Corolla.

My wife wants me to buy something nicer but it only has 125K miles on it. I figure I can get another 7 years out of it.

I used to be in this camp. But instead, I buy new and drive it until the car falls apart. I work from home so I don't drive frequently, it is my wife that drives it. I would prefer to minimize the chance of a breakdown for some life of the car.

Yes, but after you pay it off you should still have several reliable years that it is "free". With a Craigslist special you will have 0 reliable years.

If you drive 50k miles a year you should put more importance on owning a vehicle that isn't at risk of breaking down.

Looking at my finances to buy a home was one of the reasons I was seeing it. I enjoy my car with the bluetooth and all of that but when it boils down to it I could have got that with a aftermarket radio.

The new vehicle didn't get me any more poosy than I was already getting. 0+0=0

I honestly think most haven't.

We had a discussion on new car purchases a while back and someone noticed my finance contract showed like an 80k down payment on a 105k loan. Financing 20 or 25k I don't remember.

They could not understand the concept of positive equity.

I'm glad we drive poor now. No car notes. Only one bike note.

i choose not to make a down payment on a vehicle since the interest rate is so low

no reason not to hold on to your 40% down payment if you are only paying 1.5% interest on borrowing

I forget how many plant operators are on the O/T. Zero down notes!

I like living cheap and stacking money for hunting trips and shite like that. I'd rather be able to afford an elk hunt every year than live in a baller mansion

Spending money because of what people you don't even know may think is a major reason a lot of people never accumulate any wealth over the course of their lives leaving them with no retirement options other than working until they die.

Both of our neighbors by our old family home in Metairie drive older cars. An old Subaru forester and a early model rav4.

Their homes are easily worth 400k.

I have this combo, but the civic doesn't get a garage spot.
