Definitely one of the more underrated pleasures in life.

I just got back to ATL from the Gulf and took back roads the entire way through AL and south GA. Windows down, country music playlist on shuffle, downshifting when entering every turn, and seeing a side of rural America that can’t be seen on an interstate.

If you are headed somewhere that isn’t a straight shot by way of a single interstate and have an hour or so to spare, I highly recommend doing this. It makes your drive so much more interesting than the boring, monotonous Interstate.

This is a key indicator of how I know you don’t have a wife or kids

Keep an eye out for the country as frick areas where they don't have stop signs at the intersections.

I drive a MINI Cooper JCW. Twisty back roads are my preferred route to anywhere. Rock, prog and metal, though, no country.

I'm much more of a get me to my destination person. I don't want to spend extra time driving.

I take the back way every chance I can. Took 2 lane roads whole way from nw Louisiana to sw Texas once. Took 4 hours longer but well worth it. Ate at 4 hole in the wall bbq places in one day.

Edit: this was before wife and kids lol

Accidentally downvoted. This x100. I’ve ridden all but one of the long distance trains in the country and nothing else compares.

Just drove from New Mexico across Texas and home to southeast Louisiana on all backroads. Took me back to when I was a kid in the 60's. Been wanting to do it and the opportunity presented itself. Saw great sights and had great food.

I do it all of the time. The key is to have a good radar detector. Those country arse cops love to hide in the woods.

I love doing this because I always like to look for good pieces of property in nice locations that I might want to scoop up
