I’m not really a mask proponent because I don’t think the illness is prevalent enough to warrant them, but they’re not meant to be some impenetrable barrier to illness. They do help decrease droplets when breathing and talking, though. That’s why they get so fricking hot.

They work really well, but they're kinda hard to breathe through.

The argument is that mask are better than doing nothing.

Using the rhythm method to prevent pregnancy is better than doing nothing.

Even the title of the video you linked doesn't say they are useless. Even the person in the video doesn't say they are useless.

Yeah but it makes people feel better. And lets us better identify dumb fricks.

We should have the government mandate EVERYTHING that is "better than doing nothing".

I didn't hear him say useless. I think he meant that there is very limited marginal utility with use of cloth masks by themselves, and I don't think that necessarily disproves the proponents of those that say we need to wear them. Cloth masks do offer some limited benefit, but should not be used to the exclusion of other measures to slow the transmission of COVID.

I say this as someone that doesn't think that wearing masks should be mandatory, but I wouldn't go as far as to say they're useless.

Exactly.

I'm also noticing the false sense of security people wearing masks seem to feel. Their social distancing seems to suffer.

Masks are the latest issue that drives 25% of the population crazy one way (the “masks are a government plot to gain control” crowd), 25% of the population crazy the polar opposite way (the “not wearing a mask makes you a murderer” types), and leaves the remaining 50% of us avoiding any and all discussion of it like the plague (timely!).

I’m sure in 2 months a new shiny object will emerge and we’ll repeat the cycle.

If you're wearing a mask and I'm not, why do you care if I'm not wearing one?

You're protected, I'm not. I'm ok with that.

It drives me crazy when people care more about what I do then what they do.

You have it backwards. You are more protected thanks to the person with the mask.

How come I have been directly exposed to + Covid patients 20+ times Only from urgent care, listening to lungs and looking in their mouths with wide variety of masks, two 3 week old n95s wore out So now I use cheap surgical masks... no more n95’s. I haven’t had any symptoms.... Either I’m immune or mask helps, I’ve never had flu either and don’t wear mask during flu season but see hundreds of flu patients. I have high blood pressure, overweight Per BMI standards but I don’t get the disease. Masks have to help some or I have awesome immune system

If it gives people peace of mind, I don’t think we need to crucify people for wearing one.
