Where the Canes used to be across from Schliz. Was a big beach vibe bar I want to say. Wasn’t Lucy’s. Wasn’t that closer to Roux House? What was the bar that became Canes?

It was The Shelter at one point. I remember the beach theme it had at one point. Had half of a real ski boat hanging in the middle ifI remember correctly. Was owned or managed by Baton Rouge’s own “DJ Prep”.

I interviewed in BR in ‘06 and moved to BR in ‘07 - that was definitely the ghost town era….nothing at that location. Happy’s or bust.

It was a large area that the owners split in half. Richoux was more of a cocktail lounge atmosphere catering to the downtown employees for happy hour. The Shelter was the other half of the area and was a nightclub with live DJ's most nights they were open.

My older brother knew the owners and worked at the Shelter, so I and my friends would get in free all the time.

Blast from the past, for sure.

That place went from having a line around the block to get in to crickets almost overnight. But it had a good 2-3 year run

Does the building still exist? Seems like a bar would do quite well there, when they move the casino right next to it (and away from the river).

And America's Pub was more 2000-2002-3ish, for the record.

America's Pub was over by the Casino/Catfish town. And it closed before 2003

There was a really cool upstairs area that was never finished out. I’ve always held a special place for Richoux’s/The Shelter since I saw my first show there: Smack.

Don’t ask the 4 Mag Nitrous guys about Smack. They don’t want to talk about it.
