I bet you are talking about mcd's. I'm surprised there has not been a shooting over this yet. First done with their order goes first. No alternating. The mouth breathers in my area can not wrap their mind around this idea either.

I was always under the impression both sides can't order at the same time. As in the person taking the orders switches sides as the car at window 2 leaves, which forces whatever car that ordered first to pull up

There is a reason for the two lines, to satisfy people's need to start the ordering process and so people aren't held up by people who take longer to order. You were in the right, if you did indeed order first. However if you finished roughly the same time and you just accelerated faster to get a head of him, you are the dick.

At Chick-Fil-A they tell you whether to pull up or wait for the other car.
