DOTD Introduces Commuter Krewe of Louisiana - A Baton Rouge Ride-share Program

The purpose of the launch event was to introduce the public to the Commuter Krewe of Louisiana. According to a release from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the department wants to encourage drivers to use carpooling as an alternative method of transportation in order to alleviate traffic congestion in and around the city.
Representatives from East and West Baton Rouge, Ascension, Livingston, and Iberville Parishes attended the event.

There is no incentive. You want people to carpool? Install HOV lanes. Even then, this won't take off in BR.

Unless you work somewhere like the NOLA CBD where parking is an issue and walking to get lunch is an option, carpooling isn't really feasible for most people. I have co-workers that live fairly close to me, but carpooling would be a pain in the arse because we go in different directions to drop off and pick up our kids and we want our own vehicles for lunch or if we need to run an errand.

It’s sad that this is what we have to resort to. But regardless of your feelings on DOTD, the truth is this state does not have anywhere close to the amount of funding it needs to make meaningful infrastructure improvements.
Whether you think we need a gas tax or that the government should get its act together and spend money more wisely, that fact remains true. We don’t spend enough on roads.

This is the most BR thing I've read in a while.
Traffic's an issue and we don't have the knowledge or funding to solve the issue, so why don't we just throw out a half-assed idea out there and see if it sticks?

I'm willing to bet there are other things that would have been a better use of the money spent on the "studies" and "research" for this.
For example, lighting it on fire could have at least provided a homeless person with warmth for a few minutes.

The HOV lanes involve infrastructure construction.
The state does not do that in Baton Rouge.
