Am I the only one that loved living in dorm high-rise? I did for all 4 years of college.
I lived in Kirby my first 5 semesters. I think the point I decided to move into the apartment with my friends was when I found the giant shite decorated like a thanksgiving center piece in the express elevator.

kirby was redone and is co ed now and is one of the best dorms.
its
herget
kirby
residential dorm
and he 100% should rush. I didn't and was in the same situation as your son and I 100% should have.
honestly from what you are wanting kirby would be your best bet. Tons of sorority girls in there and its not the shithole it was when you and I lived there. Also the cafateria is better on that side, better parking and closer to chimes.

Thanks. I didn't know they had redone Kirby.

I suspected I'd be taken wrong and I really honestly wasn't trying to be a dick, but your post about living in Kirby Smith sort of proves the point I was getting at. People should stop trying to obsessively make everything perfect for their kids. If he wants to find out about dorms, there are plenty of resource to easily do so - let him, he has time. A hell of a lot more than when you and I went to school, yet I'm betting like me, you made it without mommy or daddy's help. I just don't get the need to coddle kids by the time they get to college these days. I'm also betting that, what on the surface of by any objective "review" would seem to be a real shitty dorm experience - living in that shithole Kirby Smith - is today a wonderfully fond memory for you.
All I'm saying is, give your same chance and let go.
Hey, you ASKED for advice.

Are the LaVille's still honors dorms? Was there as a freshman in 04. Alternating M/F floors and the back door was always propped open for easy alcohol deliveries...

The information regarding dorms from LSU is completely worthless.
It do not state that Herget is a complete shitshow, pentagon is for monorities, etc.

I wasn't talking "official" channels.

I get what your saying. He has been doing the virtual tours but just wanted a few firsthand accounts. Kirby was a dump but I wouldn't trade those experiences for the world. He's his own person, he made the decision to go to LSU instead of taking a partial scholly to Boston University. In his own words "why be in med school debt for undergrad when I can go to LSU for free, slaughter the MCAT and end up at the same med school debt free.

It may have been redone, but no amount of paint, bleach, and AJAX can cover up the foul shite that went down in that dorm. Proud to say my class was the straw that broke the camel's back and forced the school close it.

Herget is the best dorm. No question.
Herget and West Laville FTW.
Laville was great because there was almost no restrictions about who could be in the room at certain times.
I can second that Herget was a shitshow.

Why is everyone saying Herget is great? Its nicknames are Hergatory and Herghetto...

I stayed in Annie Boyd about 7 years ago. At the time it was only an upperclassmen dorm. Overall a very good dorm. The only real negative was the shared bathroom between suites. Also lived in Kirby Smith my freshman year. That place was indeed a shithole but some of my best times in college occurred at that dorm. Kirby builds character...lol

Because it's a great place to meet people. He's from a small town and he will meet a lot of kids in his class and major.
On my floor alone we had close to 10 guys doing the pre-med route. Nearly all of them are in med school and they were in a fraternity.
If he's serious about his studies and wants to meet like minded people while getting a freshman experience then herget is a good choice.

Any dorm that is South of the Union is good. Don't put him anywhere on north campus unless it's in the Residential college dorms.

mine lives in Leville. it doesn't have the shared bathroom, like you are looking for but they are nice

Tha Herg is the only answer.

If his major is business or engineering he should consider those dorms. I lived in Herget and I liked it a lot until around March of my freshmen year. That will be him for any dorm though. I would recommend herget if he cant do the BEC or engineering.
