The department said its agents arrested Kenny Menard, 45, of Rayne, and Jessie Dupuis Jr., 43, of Lafayette, and charged them with theft by fraudulent sales, selling shrimp without a retail seafood license and failing to maintain records.

quote:

Most door-to-door shrimp purveyors volunteer to remove the heads from the crustaceans after a customer agrees to a sale. For many, that's not just a nice thing to do. It's so that the consumer can't check the weight to see that he or she has been shorted.

Lots of shrimp salesman from Rayne. Whats the story with that?

During an investigation, agents discovered two Hayes customers were given only about half the amount of shrimp for which they paid, the department said.

It's actually FAR less prevalent than it used to be. 20 years ago, they were all over the place.

Y'all don't? I've honestly never bought shrimp at a store. You have to make them weigh the shrimp in front of you AND use your own scale or zero their scale in front of you first.

their scales were rigged. By pulling the heads you couldn't take your purchase inside your home and remeasure on a known good scale.

I know everything gets labeled trashy here but honestly it's pretty fitting for door to door shrimp sales.

This is the OT. The better question is who doesn't.

we usually buy by the cooler full along the coast...buying shrimp already headed should have a higher cost

These are not the winners of our society doing this job.

I'm fairly certain they are buying them at the docks and up-selling to me. Fortunately, I know the dock price and they are not good at math. I basically end up paying the gas it would've taken me to drive to the dock.

i buy by the champagne when i go to the boats.

But, selling door to door per # is a sure fire way to take advantage of people if they believe you scale is set right. Many door to door's are shady as frick and have rigged scales.
