re: Don't wish death on anyone, but the reality is Bobby Knight was a dirt bag!

a-hole ran off Larry Bird...Enough said...

Bobby Knight could be an a-hole at times. But he made damned sure his players went to class and performed in the classroom and he did not go for crib courses. There was once a top player he had who was not performing in the classroom and Knight benched him and said that it was apparent he did not care about his education and that he would arrange for him to transfer out to a place where they did not really care if you got your education.
The player was upset because no one had ever spoken to him like that. He told his mother what Knight did and said. Mother traveled to Bloomington, demanded to see Knight. Knight met with her and she hugged him and said that she was so happy because he was someone who actually cared about her boy and she knew that going to Indiana was the right move.
I heard that story and found out that Knight had almost 9 out of his 10 players that ever played for him and would graduate on time. That totally changed my opinion on Bobby Knight. The world needs more hardasses like him.

The man was a great coach who knew the game of basketball and could get the most out of his players. He was also a hypocrite of the highest degree. He preached that his players should do the right thing, go to class and graduate yet he acted like a man above the rules. Convicted of assaulting a police officer in Puerto Rico(he did not show for the trial) assaulted an LSU fan at final four for calling him Tiger Bait, brought used toilet paper to practice, choked players. The list goes on. The most damning indictment was that he shunned Coach K when he passed him on the all time wins list. Man was flawed in many ways. With that said, if I had to win one game I would pick him as my coach.

And I bet OP could not carry BK’s jock strap in regards to life accomplishments.

It’s possible to make sure kids graduate without being an a-hole. It’s possible to be a hard arse without getting physical with players and fans. He was incredibly thin skinned.

When K passed him, Knight had been diagnosed with Alzheimers. He had been in full blown Alzheimers for about the last 3 years but had been suffering from it for a while prior to the last 3 years.

Bobby would like to have a "word" with you.

I always found his relationship with Coach K interesting. It appears he became more bitter towards him as he grew in success. Unfortunate honestly.
I don’t mind saying he was one of the greats. But I absolutely hated him as a Kentucky fan. Even Jimmy Dykes wanted to kick his arse once for knocking Joe B. Hall’s glasses off. Great coaching mind but absolutely a bully.

Without a doubt he stepped over lines on the court and could be thin skinned.

For every winner in this word there exists an endless line of losers who spend their time telling everyone “he’s an a-hole”

Joe Paterno should be the topic of this post. You’re a few years late.

Was Bobby Knight a flawed man, yes. Did a lot of people react well to his management style? Yes. I wouldn't want my daughter to marry the guy, but if my child had the right personality, I wouldn't have minded a son learning from him.

So does that mean you're okay with him headbutting or grabbing your son by the throat?

He used his power as a D1 BB coach to bully and intimidate players, coaches and refs, as well as assault his own players because those in charge chose to turn a blind eye to it. Even in his final days he still never admitted to doing anything wrong, which sums up what type of person he was. I feel for his family because losing a love one is never easy, but as for Knight, I lost all respect for him many, many years ago!
Reading this tells me you know nothing about BK. And even less about teaching young men about how to be real men.
