Each ejection seat has a beacon installed on it but unfortunately the failure rate is very high

The beacon is actually in the parachute, not the ejection seat.

For the older beacons this is true, but for the newer ones (at least in the AF) the failure rate is not high.

No. The pilot is forced out of the ejection seat before the parachute even opens. The only thing, other than the chute, that stays with the pilot is a seat kit that has an auto-inflated raft and lots of other survival equipment in it.
I'm not saying this is what happened, because I don't know anything about this particular mishap, but pilots have a way to turn off the emergency beacon. It is intended for combat missions so the enemy can't home in on your location. Again, not saying that happened here but it is plausible that the pilot inadvertently disabled the beacon.
Prayers that the pilot is eventually found safe and sound.

Thanks for the info, it just frustrates me that in this day of technology, a member of our armed forces can't be located quickly.

You bet. Frustrates us too. I would just ask that people wait until an Accident Investigation Board (AIB) is able to do the proper investigation and determine all the facts before passing any judgement. Lots of things can go wrong both before and after ejection that could cause issues with the beacon.

An ejection is about the most violent thing that can happen to a person, at least intentionally. It is worse than some hard landings and "soft" crashes, from a "trauma to the pilot" standpoint.
