If the last time you ate at Don's was in to 70s, it's nothing like you remember. Hold on to those memories and never eat there again.
I'd imagine it is.

used to be, I heard the demise of Don's was due to the death of the patriarch and a bunch of greedy, bickering, spoilt brat kids running the business into the ground

I had some decent boiled crawfish at the one in Denham last year. The beer was cold too

Off topic but Shreveport-related. Is anyone following the proposed Cross Bayou Point development? As I understand it, the city will buy contaminated land, remediate it, then give it to developers who will build new government buildings they will lease back to the city, parish, and state. This would leave the existing downtown courthouse empty as well as the state office building on Fairfield. So it is adding to, then reshuffling chairs on the deck. They are supposed to also build luxury, "market" valued, and of course good ole "affordable" housing in the area either then or at some later time. All in the name of "redevelopment" and "economic investment."
I've been following in the paper and it doesn't make sense. Am I missing something?

This has insurance fraud written all over it. That restaurant has been closed for well over 10 years.
Someone bought it years ago and tried to open a funeral home there but the South Highland Mafi.... I mean neighborhood association snuffed that out.

yeah, used to buy a lot of crawfish from there for frat boils while at LSU, got to be pretty good friends with Bob, he was playing for the Redskins at the time, nice guy, tiny guy, 'skins were paying him $50k a year at the time, or so he said

I seem to remember one of the issues with the funeral home was it was a black owned venture. Those Highland folks shut that down as quick as they could.
Also a totally vacant building burning down 10 years after it was a restaurant has insurance fraud written all over it. What could possibly start a fire in a vacant building.

I don't think it passed and we're all racist because of it.

Side note. Went to Shreveport last month for the first time in quite a while. Crossing the river on the interstate, all those casinos look trashy AF.
True, went up there to go deer hunting a while back. Then you hit the huge Larry Flynt hustler club neon sign on north market.
Looks like Biff took over the town

Nope, you've got a good understanding... total lack of economic awareness by our leaders.

At least there are some trying to invest instead of bitching on social media. Fat Calf Brasserie is excellent, I have several clients looking to invest or already are doing heavy remodels to homes in the area around Kings. One of Shreveport's biggest obstacles is a dedicated and vocal population of lazy ignorants who have the means to make things better but don't.
Post of the Day!!! Well done Sir!
Dons Seafood sucks anyway. I went to the old one downtown Lafayette recently for a retirement party & the food was extremely bland & subpar.

There’s some trashy parts of SHV & som very nice parts. I can’t believe Hustler club was allowed to build that monstrosity downtown.
Where do you live? I’m sure it’s Gods Country.

You’re right. There are a few nice places in Shreveport, but the downtown area looks like shite.
Again you’re right, Lafayette.

At one time old money Shreveport would give old money New Orleans a run for snobbery and pretentiousness. They've all died now and their kids and grandkids moved to Dallas.
