I almost went to Dominican for 8th grade. Them and Chapelle were the only ones at the time offering 8th grade. I chose Chapelle and never regretted it. I was in the 2nd 8th grade class at Chapelle. We had 16 girls in the whole grade.
I knew most of the girls from the first 8th grade class at Chapelle.

This was news at the time, even outside of New Orleans.

Country Day, St Martin’s
Plus, St Martin’s is generous with financial aid and you don’t have to have brains to go there.

quote:It's anecdotal, but most of the girls I knew from Dominican were smart, good girls you'd be proud to introduce to your parents. I always had a higher opinion of Dominican than any other school in the city for that reason. Btw all of the girls in my family and most of my female friends went to MCA.
I don’t think it’s a “bad” school by any means. But there are a few better options in the city.

I would assume it's more premise than anything else. people normally don't chose to live IN NOLA to send their kids to school in Jeff parish and in fact, it's definitely more popular the other way around.

How can honoring a Supreme Court Justice that's an alum be controversial?
It’s nuanced for sure. They should be very proud of ACB, and I think they are, but ACB also was a key vote in a decision that was not popular with women overall.

I understand that most people don’t live like that anymore - but if you live in NOLA and work in NOLA - why would you take your kid out to JP?

Idk, maybe I don’t know anyone who lives in NOLA and works in NOLA… all my family moved to Metairie in the 70s

It’s a mixed bag. There’s lots of uptown kids that go to country day and lots of Old Metry kids that go to Newman.
I don’t know anyone that goes to St Martin that doesn’t already live in Kenner or West Metairie that don’t go to Rummel

No. Did I say that?
I don’t believe the claims in this thread saying the school wasn’t proud of ACB and begrudgingly advertise her as alum.

Some of the older Dominican sisters, what few are left, are less than proud. Sadly, most of the few are woke.
