Is she lazy?

Very.

She gets more active in nicer weather, but she's otherwise very chill.

Yep. I always walked them in residential areas. Never really paid attention to this, but every neighborhood had grass they could use, so I'm sure they sought it out if it was too hot.

Same with all 4 dogs I've owned. They usually would walk on the grass while walking them. I'd be right by the gutter so they could be 5' away from me on the grass/sidewalk.

Never really though about their paws because I know they weren't in pain.

Like I said, I could see a Wall Mart parking lot in the middle of the day being an issue, but I don't shop at Wal Mart, and I don't bring my dog shopping

Mine is spoiled.

- Doesn't like to get wet.
- Won't use the bathroom in the grass if damp.
- Likes A/C blowing on her face in truck.

So no way she's walking on hot asphalt in hot part of the day.

I test out the heat of the road or sidewalk by giving them the choice to walk in grass/dirt next to it. I'm always amazed at how often they choose the hot asphalt or concrete, so I assume it doesn't bother them too much.

Are you familiar with the composition of the bottom of a canine's paw?

I know its tough but where in nature is a walking surface as hot as asphalt? I mean that's obviously a man-made and it's not like they've evolved to deal with it.

I've actually never considered it but the OP brought up a good point.

Look, when me and my lab go for a run I try to put him on grass, but every time he goes back on the road. Would he do that if it hurts? A dog's foot pad is different from our feet. Ya know?

Good post. Some people suck at owning a pet.

Post a picture. I am thinking further down the line of getting another playmate for her.
