Not super familiar with Lake Martin. That was the image that popped up when I queried Goat Island Lake Martin.

Apparently, the people who own the goats do not own the island. So there is no "rule" or law preventing people from bringing dogs.

From what I've gathered from other reports and facebook, the guy was at his house on the lake and saw the dog chasing the goats so he hopped in his boat and headed over. When he go there the dog and goat were in the water. He then confronted the owners, confirmed it was their dog, saved the goat, and killed the dog. It sounds pretty bad without knowing his side of the story.

Sounds like the dog owners are to blame for this.

I’m not sure if I’m buying all of the dog owners story

quote:

A man in a pontoon boat suddenly appeared blocking my mom and our friends boat from their path of rescue to Cletus and the goat. The man driving the pontoon boat asked the adults on the boat if this was their dog. At first it appeared that the man on the pontoon boat was going to save both animals. "However, after he pulled closer up he ran right over our boxer and went straight for the goat. The tired and now injured Cletus bobbed up out of the water after getting hit and struggled to try and climb up on the pontoon boat," the petition said. The owner said she yelled at the other boater to cut his engine off, but he didn't stop. "The man replied as he lifted the goat onto his boat, 'I don't give a damn about your dog,'" the petition said. "He did not attempt to get Cletus on his boat or turn his motor off. He put his boat in reverse and Cletus went straight into his motor." « less

Keep in mind this is the same heartless man that just rescued a baby goat.

Yeah, I’m having a hard time believing someone rescuing his pet baby goat proceeded to heartlessly and purposely slaughter a pup

If the boat was intentionally aimed at the dog it would be a felony.

If he's saving the goat from the dog, then I can see it.

Plenty of blame to go around. I would never let my dogs swim around boats that are under power, and I sure as hell wouldn't allow it where there is a chance of drunk boat operators (not suggesting the pontoon driver was drinking - just in general).

I'm surprised the dog's life jacket (personal flortation device) didn't offer more protection and make Cletus' head more visible along with the vibrant colors of most dog life jacets.

Or wasn't Cletus wearing one as he may have chased the goat into the water?
