I don't dress for success
Already got my brass ring, so I don't have to dress for success. In fact, I was damned miserable during those years I had to dress like a fricking French poodle. I am usually seen in blue jeans, tennis shoes/sandals, and some sort of t-shirt. The folks I get my money from in return for my professional services need me more than I need them. Everyone should strive to reach that level in their career.

Truly rich people wear more modest clothes.

Everything I'm wearing was bought on sale.

Yes. It's nice to look nice. But wearing excessive expensive jewelry and matching handbags can draw too much attention to yourself in certain areas.
I don't wear a watch. I did as a kid. I like wearing comfortable shirts with a nice pair if shorts during the summers. Why be uncomfortable ? I have had a good job for 23 years that is laid back as for as attire is concerned. If I go on a date, I will dress up. I would rather save for retirement than squander money on cars, clothes, and oversized homes.

No. It reflects how much you value clothing, nothing more

Right now wearing flannel PJ pants, slippers, an old and faded los pollos hermanos t shirt, and a watch that was $1,200.
