I've never had to do but just thinking about my brick house and stacking bags up against the brick exterior to block say front door, back door, garage door... does the water not seep through the gaps in the brick and all? I mean, there's a couple easy inches where the slab is where its a solid surface but i've just been pondering this.

It's not flex seal, but it works.

I've never seen images of sandbags that get the desired effect of total protection of the house. On the other hand, building berms and using aqua dam seems to be promising, but not simple to deploy like sand bags.

Its almost like you can construct some concrete forms really quickly if you only have a few entrance points in house if you are talking less than a foot of water maybe, and just deconstruct them afterwards.

In my opinion, it's easier to caulk your doors Windows shut and fill weep holes with caulk too. That seems way more impactful than throwing sandbags against the wall.

Now, if you're building a berm, lined with a plastic liner sandbags Would work.

Sure, but your walls aren't completely waterproof.

My buddy had a place on the Red River that was flooded last year in NWLA. They used sandbags to build the structure, but had to dig a hole in the low spot of the "dry " yard, and constantly monitor and bilge/trash pump out the seepage back over to the wet side of the berm.

In other words, yeah, it leaks, but there is an answer for that by the means of a pump.

Works great for flash flooding. Water comes up and recedes quickly. Not so much when it sits for a week or two and seeps in around cracks. Sandbagging is ideal with tarps and towels. I've made some damn fine flood preventatives with it.

From personal observation, no, stacking sandbags around the doors will not keep the water out of your house. It will slow it down, but eventually the water seeps through. And yes, water seeps in through the weep holes.

Houses should have flood curtains that someone how come from out of ground upwards of say 2 ft- 4 ft to prevent most modest floodings.
