It’s another signaling effect so any good hiring manager should at least acknowledge it as a factor. It doesn’t mean it will be weighted heavily but it can help/hurt.
For example, someone is graduating from the same program as myself but only a few years after me...of course I give performance in the program some consideration. I have even more context for whether that performance is good or not so I’ll use it to signal a first impression.

GPA actually matters in graduate school since I'm assuming you can't drop lower than 3.0. Neither undergrad or grad GPA matters when it comes to jobs.
When I was in grad school, if you made a C for even 1 class you were done with the program.

Being as it's right around that time of year where folks are getting their grades, does anyone really care what your grad school GPA is/was after you graduate?
Is it industry dependent?
The only places where GPA's matter are at old school institutions that still use certain indicators to stack rank candidates. The ironic thing is that theses places usually go after the 3.8+ crowd, but theres sooooooooo much data out there that suggests the 2.8 - 3.3'ish crowd is much better.

I've only once been asked what was GPA was in an interview. I'm so happy I didn't get the job.
Companies interested in my GPA I wasn't interested in sans Big 4 (Accounting) which I am happy I did my 2 years as experienced hire anyway

Not if you’re an undergrad trying to get into a grad school. It tends to be pretty important in that case.

Not if you’re an undergrad
Which was kind of the genesis of the question.
I find it interesting undergrad gpa does matter for a lot of things (first job out of college, getting into grad school, financial aid, etc), yet grad gpa not so much.

It's industry dependent as well as company dependent. I applied to a few jobs that wanted a copy of my transcripts.

Oil industry here.
You have to fill out both the forms from your school placement office and also HAD to fill out the placement forms on our corporate form online.
I told the placement office of your university what the minimum gpa was I would consider and they would pull from their data. If below the gpa your placement office would not let you apply. We actually would get all the resumes from your placement office and look through them and select the students we would consider interviewing and they would let them know they should apply.
Looked at both undergrad and grad gpa.
Would not consider anything below a 3.0
And would argue with other recruiters to consider less than 3.5
Btw I disagreed with the process enough I finally removed my name as a recruiter. Pretty much said I never would have gotten a job based on my qualifications and what they wanted but I turned out ok and a good employee.
Things are way more competitive now and they tends to focus more on academics and not the individual and their human skills.
Good luck

I had to maintain at least a 3.0 for masters work.
My best job offers out of school did not ask about GPA one time. Of course, they verified with the schools that I had the coursework and degrees I stated.
The interviews I had where GPA was asked felt like dead end cubicle jobs that really led to no where.
At the end of the day, it is who you know and how hard are you willing to work.
Had one guy at a major company tell me in my interview (30 years ago) he would take a 2.5 gpa over a 4.0 gpa every day. I have followed his counsel / advise as I moved up the ranks and he was right.
The 4.0 guys can’t help but trip up and get in their own way.

Considering that most of the people who post on TD work in the plant, Graduate school GPA probably isn't even a concern
Posted on 12/16/19 at 3:49 pm to NYNolaguy1
Depends on your program. Ours has a “two Cs” policy. If you get two Cs in the duration of the program, you’re removed from the program (you can appeal, but it typically takes extenuating circumstances to get back in).

Unless its medical field where you are trying to match with a residency, your GPA is worthless

In law school lots of high end firms will only interview people with a certain GPA or class rank.

Yes and importance can vary within the industry. In my particular subset in my field, experience (internships) were more important; however, other areas class rank is equally as important. My advice is work hard, make good grades, and you won’t have to worry about it
