She shouldn't be using that term in a workplace. I'm sure she'd get fired for dropping an N bomb as well.

Just saying. It's not some cute term to be used by people who want to feel like they're fitting in with Cajuns. I'm glad most Cajuns can use it for their own purpose and call each other that but it does bother me when a non-Cajun says it.

If you live North of I-10 you're a redneck

I got a few people in Pointe Coupee I'd like you to tell that too.

I guess that also makes Ville Platte, Mamou and Fordoche redneck.

I'm not going to fight anyone over it, it just kind of rubs me the wrong way when I hear it. Not like red faced pissed off or anything, just a slight cringe. I don't think most people who say it mean it as an insult either. Just thought it was worth noting.

I have always considered it to associate with down da bayou Cajuns. Unlike Prairie Cajuns of Southwest LA. I don't know many Cajuns along I10 west of BR that call themselves coonasses. I know plenty in Jefferson parish that use it for themselves.

I know plenty of Cajuns from all over who use it to refer to themselves. Just thought I'd give a different viewpoint.

I never say someone is a Cajun...always say they are a coonass. I hope this thread will help me not to piss off any coonass/cajuns
