Does anyone here know much about this doordash thing in NYC?

Because wrap around porches aren’t a “thing” there?

I've never worked for doordash and have never even ordered through them. From what I have been told, those people are contractors, not employees, and can accept assignments at their own discretion. What was the issue?

Just trying to understand what the real issue was. It's a way for someone to make some extra money on their own schedule. The NYC mayor and other politicians were claiming some type of victory after a settlement for the employees. I didn't see the whole press conference, I just walked through the room where the TV was on and caught part of the story.

Most answers provided by outlets on the internet are mostly spin one way or another. I prefer the opinions/observations of regular people, especially those with no skin in the game.

The smallest cut from that 131.5 million settlement went to the dashers, $12.3 mil. Lawyers and the city get the rest. Pathetic.

What I understood was:

1. one part was simply "glitches" in the app that payed out delivery people short changing them

2. the bigger argument was over how to calculate how much time was spent on a delivery -- in terms of delays of restaurants getting orders out and down time between orders.


Fair to say Door Dash is extra money for some people in smaller towns and cities. In somewhere like NY, it's become a fairly major employer.

Damn, I just ordered a Big Mac, Spicy McChicken, 10-piece nuggies, and a basket of freedom fries on Door Dash for delivery which was all very delicious and yummy to my tummy.

Coulda been me. Really makes you think...
