Does anybody here use the LINE app ?

I used to be an Engrish teacher in Japan. All my old students and some gaijin keep telling me I need this APP. They told me it's free and private. Apparently it's THE thing in Japan, Thailand, etc. My friends do group chats and individual chats and I'm like one of the few who doesn't.
Does anybody use it?
Do you like it ?
You get five free calls a day I think.
Are all my chat times/lengths going to show up on ATT unlimited data bill ?
Any hidden charges ?
Any downside to this app?

It's like any other chat app. I don't use it, but know it is huge in Japan. It will not show up on your ATT bill. LINE makes money by in app purchases of sticker packs, etc. No hidden charges.

I use Kakao, Line, Wechat. No hidden charges and you wont see anything on your AT&T bill specific to the apps, just the data you use if you're not on wifi.
Theyre great for travelling, you dont need a SIM card or have to buy an international plan if you have Wi-Fi. If you're in Asia no one calls or texts, everything is done through those apps. You can even use WeChat to buy a car in China

I had to go to the Philippines for work 4 years ago for over 2 months and used it over there. Overall not too bad. It mostly has to do with how good the wifi is, which in PI isn't good anywhere. I don't blame the APP. No hidden charges for me. I don't know about what shows up on your bill as far as conversation history.

I use it just for texting/chat with friends living overseas. Don't use the calling function and have never been charged.

Honestly the only downside I've seen on this app are pulse notifications. Once you turn them off (or how you want), it's a great app. I've been using it for a few years now

So if someone calls me or does a cam chat from Japan, nothing shows up on my bill? No charge? No record of who called? Just random data?
ETA: those 10 or so people were from all parts of the world, including Poland, London, Thailand, Netherlands, etc.

I use to keep in touch with some friends from Scotland and England. Easy app to work with...no charges. Never used the voice calling aspect. It's a good international texting app. Although we may have international calling/texting some other countries don't and I'm assuming they get charged when getting texts from anywhere other than their area.
I'v used BAND for gaming...Not a fan. Like LINE Better.

I just used it. Pretty freaking cool. Definitely geared more toward young females though . An hour on LINE and now I want to buy a purse lol. But pretty cool. I could actually see it catch on here.
