Folks in India are probably used to stepping around dead bodies all the time. The folks in the slums don't even know there is a virus going around. The only Indians (dot) that are getting tested are most likely doctors and government workers. That place would have cases in the tens of millions easy. I don't have a source, but I'm mostly right here.

They also have BY FAR the largest population in the world. It doesn’t matter how extreme your quarantine measures are, it’s absurd a country with a population of 1.5B+ people would have hardly any cases. There were some days they reported 0 new cases I think. Another day they reported 55 new cases with only one of them being non-foreigners. Again pretty unbelievable to think that they only had new 1 case out of hundreds of millions that didn’t contract it in the first place. There are videos of the protests that happened in the Hubei province. Those people were jam packed together.
They also have a one party system, control the media, and had significant control over the Internet there. It’s not too hard for them to lie (even to their own people) and get away with it because no one on the inside is going to successfully call them out as would happen in many democratic countries. If they can lie and get away with it, they would and probably are.
I can believe that their numbers are going down because of the measures they took, but not near the levels that they’re saying. There are using this an opportunity to spring themselves forward while everyone else suffers.

That and foreigners that just entered the country. That’s who they’re blaming most of the cases on now. But yeah the government doesn’t care much about the people in the slums. It could explode and no one would realize for a while.
