I long for the days when Darren would get home every fricking day at 5:30 and Samantha would have a drink waiting.

That is long gone because of cell phones and now computers. These devises make it possible to work 24/7 if need be. And there's always some dude in the office that has no life that will be trying to show you up by getting the report out faster over the hollidays, weekend, etc.

Just went to New Orleans for a week and would check email and voice mails at 7 am from the previous day. Worked about 20 minutes a day

Try not to, but I also hate coming back to hundreds of unread emails.

People blow up my phone 7 days a week at all hours - it's whether or not I answer...

If I'm in family time, then I ignore business calls. If I'm chillin' with no obligations, then I do work related things on vacation or when on long weekends from the office.

I wouldn't bill a full day but for a few hours or half a day? Sure.

i take 2 weeks off for christmas. I do not respond to emails or text concerning work. And send all work numbers to voicemail. This is my vacation and time with family, i do not do any work, and dont care what is going on at work. Whatever it is, it can wait.

This is how its supposed to be. Life is too fricking short to spend your family time doing work shite.

That's reasonable.

Yes, but I try to get up early before everyone else and do it while they sleep in. As someone else mentioned there's really no way around it.

It sucks but at least I don't come back to the office with 300+ emails to deal with and a bunch of pissed off people.

The problem is not me or you though. The problem is that people are so used to now, now, now that they don't respect vacations any longer.

I'll typically check emails at night and respond to them if there are pressing issues. I'm about to have three weeks off, and I'm not bringing my computer with me, so I'll be limited in what actual work I can do.

I'm definitely not attending meetings while on vacation.

I don't take vacations. I'm a workaholic and I would drive my wife nuts if I was around her for that long.

If I am really taking a vacation, I actually go to someplace where my phone will not work. So I can completely disconnect. That is really hard to do. But am doing 3 weeks in indonesia next year.

the boss works pretty much 24/7, even when he is on vacation with his family he is setting up calls, emailing, etc. He expects the same from you.

Next week our work is forcing us to take a week off. Like fricking hell will I do a lick of work during that time.

This sounds like me as well.

Thats perfect.
We used to have some suppliers in Germany and every once in a while when I would call to talk to Fitz I would be told he was going to be on vacation for 2 months.

Those sons of B's know how to do it.

I'm never truly off of work. But I don't mind. I can handle most business on my phone regardless if on vacation on not
