Exactly. Just look at the iphone and PS4 for example...

Did amazon kill your mom and rape your dad?
Posted on 5/27/14 at 6:42 pm to BACONisMEATcandy
No, I research shite and buy what I want, not what Amazon suggests.

I'm smart enough to realize there is more research to determine if the rating can be trusted.

when there's no other site with the product what do you do?
mediabridge medialink router for instance (since everyone knows this one):
amazon - "#1 best seller",
- 7,000+ reviews (until amazon removed about 50% of them recently)
- 879 answered questions
- 4/5 stars
- next router in the list has maybe 100 reviews
- 'most helpful' review was detailed about what a great router and tons of comments about what a great product this is by people responding
overnight, that review disappears and REPLACED by page after page of ONE-STAR 'most helpful' reviews, yet this product remains best in category with a solid 4.5 stars.
so you're saying you'd have to just dismiss all of the above because you're smart enough to sniff out the fact this is a mediocre/overpriced version of a $19 router manipulated to the '#1' position by a very slick company known for nothing but..this router?
dlink, netgear, motorola, cisco, etc must be rolling their eyes at the amazon mediabridge steamroller going on here while their products get pushed to irrelevance on amazon's 'store shelf'
if not for the redditor last month exposing this..how would you have ever known?
eta the original question remains; is there any value to you when shopping when you find a 'best in category' (with associated AMAZON-ENDORSED BADGING) product?
is there value in this badge? people once trusted 'good housekeeping' badge without question.

CAD, you're starting to remind me of the anti smoking guy from the beginning of Clerks.

I just laugh that you think this "problem" of someone hyping a product is something that only happens at Amazon... It happens in every store, everywhere.
You have to be a smart enough consumer to read thru the bullshite and make an educated decision.
Amazon is better than anyone else, because if you are not happy with the purchase, they will bend over backwards to make sure they fix the problem.

That should be a giant red flag in and of itself, unless it's
Amazon branded stuff.

exactly! I have been burned once. It took me exactly one time to learn my fricking lesson. I believe your lesson was made on a $9 coffee pot. shut up you sniveling bitch and take your newly found knowledge and make informed purchases in the future instead of trying to start some ill founded amazon revolt.

Amazon has drones now so I'd really pipe down if I were you.

damn.
i'm trying to provide a PSA here and ya'll act like i just had sex with your mom or something.
so my job here is done. amazon reviews are USELESS, amazon badging is USELESS and since you can't trust that it hasn't been gamed, you're better off going somewhere besides amazon to learn about the widget you're planning to buy.
'sniveling bitch'
eta go run a mile backwards while smoking a cigarette and chugging a pitcher of beer or something.
