Moved apartments yesterday. Went with Two Men and a Truck, who are great. Hiring movers is worth every cent. They fully moved my 1br apartment in under 3 hours.

I tipped the baws 20%. Was that too much?

I don't really go by percentage, but yes you absolutely tip movers.

FWIW I've never had a bad local move, they've all been awesome. I guess it's the distance ones that generate the issues.

I'd probably tip $20 each.

Well this is scary. I'm hiring movers soon and was hoping it would be a 3hr job, but I'm moving out of something much bigger into something even bigger.

Did you prep? Or did they like pack all your belongings into boxes too? Just curious what I'm in for.

(Yes, I tip everyone. It's my toxic trait.)

I wouldn't think so. They are sweating their arse off in this heat so you did right by them.

Yes. They actually do work and usually don’t ask for tips.

Meanwhile, the person who put my order in a bag at the to-go area asks for tips.

What a weird world we live in

This. I'm over "tipping for everything" culture that spawned from Covid.

Shout out to the Mandeville Firemen movers. They are, as I'm sure you can tell by the name, firemen on the Northshore who also are movers. Those guys helped me with a move a few years ago. They busted their arse and were very careful with our stuff. Nothing was dinged or damaged and they were fast and efficient. I recommend them every chance I get.

I bought lunch and gave the boys a $20… paying them is the responsibility of the company IMO

We used abba movers for a full 3 BR house (lawn stuff, grills, dining room, etc) move across town and they only took half a day. Not sure how it took those guys 3 hours on a 1 BR moved

I prepped. They just moved my furniture that was too big to fit in my car.

If you're moving a full house you're looking at a 5-6 hour job baw. Sorry.

Is this your first move w/ movers?

We moved from one house to another recently and it probably took 8 hrs. Our 4th move in the last 8 years or so. We did a ton of prep and probably spent a couple hundred on boxes/bubble the month before. Kitchen, office, etc. was most of that work. If your movers will move furniture with drawers filled - which they should - it makes it easier. Most of the mover time is spent wrapping/unwrapping furniture, mirrors, tables, etc. So that's where the real time suck will be.
