Do you think there are any Vietnam MIA’s/POW’s still in country?

I heard someone discussing this recently, and decided to go look around on the internet to see what evidence existed one way, or the other. I’m just curious what you all think. It’s a known fact some were left behind in places like Laos. All tagged with MIA status, but I get the impression there was a lot of them left behind as POW’s with the NVA. However, the Pathet Lao in the south was so disorganized this seems to be where some may have been left. It’s heartbreaking thinking about. Do you think any were left behind, and what’s the odds they are still alive?

I bet they all ended up finally fulfilling their Asian fantasy. Lucky SOBs.
My father in law was in Vietnam and we always joke that one day an Asian man or woman is going to come knocking at the door claiming to be his child.

That’s a solid point. Some photos seem to suggest at least some did that very thing.

My uncle served in Vietnam. He has always said it’s likely some of them walked away from their units and assimilated into the population. He says once you get out of the river deltas there are places in the higher elevations where the climate is ideal.

This image really got to me when I saw it. It was taken via aerial photography long after the war ended. First was a “Walking K” (used by downed pilots)noticed, and when that produced no results went full bore USA.

From what I've read, a large number of Electronic Warfare Officers and Weapons System Officers were not among the POWs returned. Allegedly, they were declared dead, and shipped to the Soviets. Who knows?

I’d be willing to bet hardly any consider or considered themselves “lucky sob’s”
On my middle class Baton Rouge Street alone I went to school with children of 1 shot down and confirmed dead USAF pilot over North Vietnam, 1 shot down and captured Navy pilot over North Vietnam and spent several years in Hanoi Hilton, 1 older brother who flew 4 tours as a Marine in an F-4 Phantom, 1 Green Beret killed in action, 1 US Army non-com MIA along with over 1 dozen others that served in country.
That was only one street with about I guess a hundred houses. We all had silver bracelets with their names on them and a huge parade when the Hanoi Hilton me,bet came home. He had an 8 year old daughter he had never seen.

Dang that’s a lot for one neighborhood street. Everyone I have in my family came home thankfully, but one was a green beret also. My uncle who came home, but never was right again. Completely changed his personality, and the doctors assume it was the agent Orange that got him with cancer eventually.

Supposedly it is aerial photo of an area of a rice field where someone first formed a walking k. Had to google to see what it was, but it’s taught to down pilots to signal without being obvious. Then when no one came the person(s) did the USA also. Hard to tell with pic definition, but apparent taken long after the war.

We're more than 40 years past withdrawing.
Anyone kept in Vietnamese captivity is at least 60 years old-- and given how they were treated as prisoners, it wouldn't have been great for their long term health prospects either.
Now, if you talk about people who when AWOL or simply went native, the chances are significantly higher. I wouldn't put that number as more than a tiny bit, though.
