No one is forced to watch. The idea of ending a criminals life in a very humiliating and public fashion i think would help. As it stands now, none of us even flinch when we hear of a common state lethal injection execution. Hanging someone is just mind-blowing.

I am pro-death penalty but I don't think that would have an effect one way or the other. Executions were public for centuries and the need for the never seemed to diminish. The problem is the criminals think they are too smart to get caught anyway.

Well if no one is forced to watch, how would it be a deterrent. I don't think most people who commit capital crimes care about the punishment.

So you take the punishment and hold it in the public forum, the people who do or would commit those crimes don't show up and see it. How is their reality changed from what it is currently.

Yes and yes.

It's a proven fact that no person who has been executed has ever committed another crime.

No, research has shown that most criminals don't think about being caught, much less what the consequences are.

I don't have to think. I know they wouldn't. That is a fact.

Death penalty as a deterrent only works if it's done quickly enough. It's impossible to do that with the abundance of laws we have in this country. There's an appeal for any amount of bull shite you can come up with.

Correct. The only value of the DP in our society is vengeance. We can't do it the right way in order to make it a deterrent.

Since violent video games are known to increase violence how about adding public executions to the video games?
