Wonder what your thoughts are on this.

Police lose partners to death, they see horrific things that people shouldn't have to, the suicide rate is high. Think maybe a lot are suffering from PTSD?

Absolutely. Firefighters as well. Probably less during actual fires, but they see plenty of horrific stuff at car accident sites, etc.

Yes PTSD can happen to anyone in any walk of life. It is just more known in combat vets for obvious reasons.

I'm wondering if this is a part of the issue we are seeing.

He means they get used to seeing bad shite. They develop apathy towards things that would seriously bother your every day person.

There is zero question they do.

A related topic is deploy to dwell ration. When I was in the Army we looked for a 1:3 deploy to dwell though if your unit was one that was a limited asset you might get closer to 1:2. Even counting weekends along with vacation and training Police are approaching 2:1 or 6 times what is considered ideal for the military. If you just look at deploy to training the number gets ridiculous in comparison.

Of course...you never know what call a cop has just come from to come help you in your worst moment, then they get to take that home immediately.

Soldiers/Marines have a little breathing room between home and the FOB that might allow them to process what they experienced over the last 6-12 months.

Which could be a problem.

Is PTSD involving law enforcement minimized by outsiders? Is it not considered as extensive or mentally debilitating as what a soldier may get?

Of course they do. Cops especially in these big liberals cities put up with a lot of shite

Probably a main reason why they are so quick to fire they know there's a chance they could get killed anytime they try to arrest some pos criminal

I know cops and firemen who have been referred to ptsd counseling. I think they actually go to the local VA.

I still don’t know what you’re getting at here. Is it an issue they have to deal with on a personal level? Yes. Is it something that is considered by the average American when talking about police? No. Are you trying to relate ptsd to some of these shite bags getting killed by police?

Their significantly higher training to deploy time is one reason an 18yo in the military is able to function with a no fire until fired upon ROE. I am not suggesting that be SOP for the police but training develops discipline and frontal lobe control. Lack of training lets the middle brain control situations.

One of my best friends falls into this category. The counseling was a joke. Just pushed pills on him. Luckily he saw through the bullshite and got better on his own.

I’m absolutely sure cops get PTSD,especially homicide detectives.Has to be horrible investigating murders especially of children.
.
I’ve read some about cops, the tend to get very cynical with a warped opinion of humanity. They seem to often only want to socialize with other cops and get a we vs.them attitude about the community they serve.
I suppose it is a natural reaction to having to deal with the dregs of society on a constant basis.Even honest people often don’t treat them with respect and look down on them
It’s a crappy job I wouldn’t want to do.

I'm not trying to get at anything. Just asking questions. Discussion is key to understanding.

Gonna ask some more questions...have you ever seen a commercial advertising help for soldiers that have PTSD? I have...ever seen one for law enforcement?

"Issues" Is a thread for another day ;)
