Yes. A friend with an 11 year old just bought him a cassette boom box. The kid is collecting old cassettes just like his classmates. Vinyl coming back I understood but cassettes? But I still have a bunch I recorded off vinyl back the the 80s.

I hate that mini discs never took off. They were far more durable and more portable than CDs.

You'll need one of these.

Nope chunk em. A cassette only lasts so long.
I played Black Sabbath "We Sold our Soul for Rock n Roll" so much, the head wore the music of the tape. It was blank. Analog is the finest quality of music, but just buy LPs. These days digital music is "good enough."

The drawbacks of tapes, just like LPs, is that they are not durable.
Not really. Properly cared for and stored LPs still sound great. I still have abut 400 original pressings from the 1970’s.

Trying to decide if I should throw away my box of old cassette tapes.

I still have my 8-track player and Bass 48's that were in my '70 Chevelle. I'm ready, baw!

In 10 years, high school kids will be sitting in front of their radio, waiting on the Top 8 at 8, fingers trembling on the record button

Not sure but I found a Sony PSP and PlayStation 1 the other day in my house. You think those will make a comeback too?

Do you think cassettes will ever come back

Preach! MD was an incredible technology.
When they came out, you could also record onto MD which, at the time, was not a possibility with CDs.

I still fire up my Nakamichi DR-3 from time to time. That's one hell of a tape deck. I use metal tapes and Dolby noise reduction, too.

The top deck is my 1987 Nakamichi CR-7A...on par with Dragon (often times preferred in pro environments due to lack of auto-reverse and manual azimuth adjustment).
There were only about 10 or so cassette decks produced back in the 1982-1992 era that would allow a user to push the limit of the capabilities of a 1/8”, 4-track medium (Nakamichi, Studer/Revox, and Tandberg led the pack), and they weren’t inexpensive...about $1800-2000 back in the mid ‘80’s—$4500-5000 in today’s coin).
Below is the Mother of blank cassette tape...TDK MA-XG...one cassette would set you back around $12 in 1988!...but they are the best you can find for that medium (Sony Metal Master is very close as well) Maxell MA-X is also really good tape. As for CrO2 tape, it’s hard to beat Denon HD8.
But if you really want to play with tape, just acquire one of these...

If the heads wouldnt erase the music itd be neat. Take care of LPs and theyll last a lifetime and the needles wont wear out the LP. Cassettes, the head WILL wear out the music in about 2 plays
