No. I've never had a problem in America. Europe, specifically the UK, is religious about checking the signature to the back of the card or requesting a picture ID that matches the card.
Maybe European cards have a better signature block, but I find it nearly impossible to sign the american credit cards due to size and material.

I honestly never have.
If you don't, prepare for shenanigans if you try to use said cards overseas. In the UK my cards weren't accepted unless they were signed and my signature matched that on my Driver License.

Have never.
Back in the day, just formshits & giggles, I'd sign the receipt, "Harry Cox" and never got called on it not matching the name on the card.

No, I've never signed the back of them and it's a stupid idea.

I write "check id" on mine. About 1 out of 10 places does it
ummmm, I think that is actually the point....they are supposed to check your ID and verify that the signature on the ID matches the one on the credit card so they know the card is yours.

I lived in Europe for three years and they never checked mine. I didn't spend a great deal of time in the UK. I lived in Germany and spent a lot of time in France, Portugal and Spain. I don't know if that makes a difference, but even the little time that I spent in the UK, no one ever checked or cares.

Yes, ever since I went to the UK and they asked for ID everywhere I went due to me not signing the back of my credit card to make sure that I wasn't an identity thief

I signed your name on the card I stole out of your mailbox. Seems to work just fine.

Visa, MasterCard, etc requires merchants to check signature on back of card to id used. Of course that never happens and is not really enforced

Never have. Never been asked. Honestly forgot it existed.

Why would I want a thief to have an image of my legal signature?

This, I'm so confused by the 1/10 folks saying it gets checked. Never checked in 15 yrs

52 years old and never once been asked and with the increasing use of self checkouts, who will be there checking signatures?
