I know that area is very wealthy. Public schools though, put up with more than my kids' private school.

Not every suburb but a lot of them. In the BR area Ascension, Livingston, Central, Zachary all have good public schools. You just have to deal with the traffic which sucks arse.
I believe that Jake88 was talking about St Tammany schools which is the best school district in the state. I wouldn't have any problem putting my kids in Mandeville or Fontainebleau. I definitely would not want to cross that 26 mile bridge into Nola every day though. F that.

Certainly depends on the school no doubt. I went to private in Louisiana FYI.
I know the public schools here and in Collin county are somewhat an anomaly, I can admit that...

Sending mine to kindergarten at episcopal school by my house in palm beach gardens Florida. We’re zoned for a bad public school, but I’m not a massive fan of any of the public schools in the area(eta).
Schools down here expensive as hell. Going to be 16k for flipping kindergarten and there are many that are more expensive. In 5 years we will be sending 3 there at that price. It will essentially be my wife’s entire paycheck.
My wife went to Christian school here in sfla and I went to brother Martin.

It’s insane man, I was pretty blown away by school but that’s about 4x what brother Martin was for high school in the late 90s

Because we like the area and are in one of the few spots where we can still be in town but have almost 2 acres at an affordable price, the neighborhoods kind of an anomaly. We also have her family in the area which is huge to us.
We’d also likely send our kids to Christian/private shool wherever we lived regardless of the school system (at least for grade school). We’ve also always lived extremely within our means. I’d rather spend the money on them than buy some boat or expensive car or have a crazy mortgage.

I pay about that for 2 kids. We also live in a modest house for our income. Getting 2-3 hours back per day of not having to sit in traffic is wonderful. My wife has a 2 mile commute and mine is about 4. The kids school is about 2 miles away too.

Yeah it’s about 5 mins away from us which is awesome. It actually was a huge factor instead of going to a school which was a few grand cheaper yet 25-30 mins away.

Nice neighborhoods can be in a district with a bad public school. Bocage is in Tara's district. Village St. George and CCL are in Woodlawn's district.

My overall point is that I shouldn't have to move 30 minutes outside the city for my child to have access to a public school that offers good academics, club activities, and all major sports. Sadly, their isn't a single public high school in BR that offers all three of these things I just listed.

This is one of the reasons we pay for private. Sure the magnet schools have academics and not much else. I don't want to commute an hour to work one way either
