Thread!
Growing up on the farm it was:
Lunch
Dinner
Supper
Until numerous discussions once at LSU about it. Here we are again today discussing it.

Older country folks call the noon meal dinner and the evening meal supper, but sometimes call it dinner, if a special event (like a rehearsal dinner).
The Dinner Bell in McComb, MS is only open from 11-2 (dinner).

It's dinner than supper .... ya I grew up in the country
Further, dinner (the mid-day meal) was the main meal of the day. You had any new dishes introduced here. Supper was simply leftovers from dinner.
The old country folks never used the word lunch.
And that is the way it was in the rural south.

I believe it depends on your age, where you grew up, your current business/ social environment.
I grew up hearing "dinner" for the noon meal and "supper" for the evening meal.
Mostly, it is "lunch" for the noon meal now.

Ditto for me. Clark is right. Lunch is at noon and dinner supper are Interchangeable for the evening meal.
And if you say anything different you are just plain wrong.

Lunch. Lunch is lunch and dinner slash supper is served at 6 or after.

Same for me.
I hired a young kid from Tellico once, though, who told me that dinner was just late lunch. I wonder if the varied definitions of "dinner" have a regional influence.
