absolutely. I think along the lines of letting your kid drink a glass of wine with dinner every now and then we are also drinking. Give him a second glass every other time. Dont get him drunk unless its every other-other time ya know. And then on that other-other-other time, finish a fifth of jager with him.

All kidding aside, let the kid be a kid, but be a parent when you need to be. Dont be a naive, strict parent who thinks their kid is gonna be sober FOR LIFE....

But it is legal in Louisiana for a kid to drink in the presence of their parent at 18.

I was my dads DD before I even had a drivers license. It is what it is. Kids are going to see their parents and friends drinking so they will do it in high school. You accept it and lecture them on not drinking and driving

You're probably ignorant enough to think they won't have sex until they get married unless you 'promote' it to them huh?

I'm not going to promote it, whatever that means, but it's being promoted to them whether you like it or not. The best thing you can do is educate them and try to gauge when your child is mature enough to start drinking responsibly. Talk with them about it and maintain an open dialogue so they can come to you with any questions. The best advice I can give is to show them the consequences of drinking and driving no matter how graphic the pics or videos will be. These images will stick with them as they make their own decisions because no matter how much you try to keep it away there will be opportunities. Educate them. You don't want them to have to learn about it the hard way.

Kids are people too! Some people can handle alcohol and some can't. If you have a child who seems to not be able to handle it you should really focus on teaching them to stay the frick away from it.

This subject has been visited many times on the OT. The typical "Trashy" responses from people who likely drank in high school behind their parents backs and lied about it. Which in my book, lying is way trashier than drinking.

On the Northshore, and I would think elsewhere, alcohol is difficult to purchase for a teen. Marijuana and pills are easy to come by though. Most parents I know have to deal with their kids doing illegal drugs or opioids way more than alcohol.

And whether your kid is consuming alcohol or doing any type of drug behind your back or not, they are certainly exposed to it. As a parent, I discuss the dangers of drugs far more to my kids than alcohol. From my experience on the Northshore, when teens from Mandeville High go to a party, there is almost always marijuana present.

I believe it is far better to have a teen (16-18) that is familiar with alcohol than to have an 18 year old going to college totally unaware of alcohol's effects.

When I was 18, I had to register for the draft, was eligible to vote, and was an adult under the law. For 18 year olds not to be able to drink is a MADD dictated travesty.

Y'all need to relax, there's plenty of different ways to raise a kid and they're all wrong.

We're all fricking up our children in our own ways, no need for judgement.

No shite. Of course they're going to get their hands on it. All you can do is tell how to be safe when they drink. But I'm not going condone it
