So if you have a 4BR house, how are you supposed to plan which room you will be in when the person breaks in?

Four men broke to my sister and husbands home. The guns were locked away and before her husband could get to them, it was to late. He ended up stabbed and she got her skull cracked with a pistol butt. She had a cathiter in her chest to receive medication.

You don't really understand what these guys are saying then.

quote:

Because is they had you would know you only have time to go to one place to get a gun

This is why these guys have multiple loaded firearms in the house.

Like I said read this and think about it

quote:

you don't know what you don't know until you know it

Shows you ignorance:

If it makes you feel more macho, you're welcome to do as you please. It just isn't any more practical for your safety is all.

That is horrible and I'm sorry to hear it.

You're well within your rights to do so, I'm just of the opinion that it doesn't offer you more protection.

As the person above stated, most of these home invasions are not carried out alone. You running to different rooms to get a different gun might put you in more danger than if you had one in a place where you were prepared to bunker down.

It's all just a difference of opinion.

If I roll over to my right, I cuddle with my wife. If I roll over to my left, I cuddle with my 12 gauge loaded with buck shot.

I also have 4 other guns carefully placed throughout the house.

A majority of home invasions while people are home happen at night. It would make the most sense to have one in your bedroom, no?

I think it also makes sense to have one on the opposite side of the house if it came to that. Either way, you should know your house and the location of the gun much better than someone who breaks in. You have the advantage in getting to that spot first.

This.

I keep my guns locked in a safe except for a 2 pistols and a 20 gauge that are in different places in the house and those are there more for my wife. I like to know that while I'm not around she is well defended. She knows how to use each one well, and hopefully she doesn't turn one on me

So you agree that having multiple loaded firearms in the home isn't only for "macho" purposes?

ETA: you just completely flipped your comments here

I said you shouldn't need more than two in my original post.

So 3 firearms and you are a drug dealer? gotcha

My house isn't that big so 2 seems to be a good number for me, but for someone with a larger house I can easily see why they would have 4 or even 5 in strategic spots in the house.

Meh, I have 4BR and live alone. I've fallen asleep in 3 of the 4 BRs (Office, Theater room) not to mention the living room couch.

2 of the rooms are probably close enough to run to the other and grab a gun, but oh well.

It's not that I'm paranoid of something happening. It's more "why not just in case?".

Or paranoid. I gave two options

If four guys enter the house like that other poster said, the chances that you will be able to identify it, react, and get to other rooms to collect weapons just aren't as good as if you had one to defend yourself and protect your family. That's my position.

I get your point but that comes from your personal experience which differs from others. With this being your position one would assume you have never been in a situation where you feared for your life or the lives of those you care about and your fists were not enough to get you out of it. If you experience that just once in your life and don't come out of it knowing you will never allow yourself to be caught unprepared in an indefensible position again...then you need a trip to the Doc to locate your ball-sack buddy. If you want to call that paranoia knock yourself out but I will call it eliminating paranoia by being prepared.

See, I think that's all the defense you would need. Obviously some of you have far bigger fears than I do though

False, you are the one making assumptions.

I was held at gunpoint when I was 17. I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time though and a guy snuck up on me and held a gun to my head from behind and robbed me. Even if I was armed, in that EXACT scenario there wouldn't have been much I could have done other than hand over money and hope for the best. Glad that makes me a pussy to you though.

Jesus man, can you read?

You can have as many guns as you want. I said 2 UNLOCKED AND LOADED would be sufficient to protect you. Anything else is overkill IN MY OPINION because it's not practical you would be able to get to them and use them in an actual emergency event. You guys are acting like I'm talking about banning all guns on here.

What about smoke detectors in each room? CO monitors? Motion detectors/window alarms?

May not be 100% comparable to the conversation at hand, but I'm curious.
