Kinda like a frick buddy but instead of fricking, venting.
I think they can be helpful, especially if you do it in the correct context.
Cute foreign chick at work asks if we could be vent buddies. The idea is she complains to me and I don't listen and tell her to grow up and I complain to her and she doesn't listen and tells me to grow up and for some reason we both feel much better afterwards.
