Do you guys have "Trail Rides" in your area of Louisiana?

The last 5 years, weekend horseback trail rides have become a big thing on the Southwest LA Prairie. Seem to be very popular in Evangeline and St. Landry Parishes.
Anywhere from one hundred to several hundred horseback riders in a parade, escorted by one deputy sheriff. Generally the routes are not publicized.
So naturally, once you get caught up to one, you can either turn around to go back or find a way to get around the procession. There is no one in back to even keep an eye on traffic.
I consider these events to be hazardous to traffic and also to the riders themselves. They just appear to be poorly planned and poorly controlled.
This last one I came up on would be a nightmare for an ambulance responding to an emergency or vehicular accident.
Just wondering if any of you have experience with these things.

They've been doing this for at least 40 years in that area, probably longer. It's not new.

used to in my area. Had a tragedy a few years back - bad car accident - think they put a stop to it.

RIF.
I never said they were new, just that they've recently gotten a lot more popular.

So it's a road ride, not a trail ride?

They're advertised as "trail rides" but I've never seen them go off road.

I grew up in rural Acadia parish on the border with St. Landry and there were trail rides damn near every weekend starting in the spring. Not sure about poorly planned but they definitely ruled the road.

I have seen them on Sunday afternoons around CenLa since I was a child....kind of cool, if you ask me...
in that area, they were never a problem for me as they would ride on the shoulder of the road...

They were much more popular years ago.

I've been in this area for most of my nearly 55 years. They weren't nearly as popular here as they are now.
But I'm not sure what popularity has to do with a poorly planned and nearly uncontrolled parade.

You didn't sign your first two posts in this thread. And it was pleasant.

All the ones I've seen seem to have a lot of smoked riders. You know, give a brother a rope, wanna be a cowboy.

Maybe the dipshits around here could learn something from the CenLA area.

Exactly. That's how they are here, nothing but a huge drunkfest (and probably other substances as well).

yes and they are terrible. they used to have them occasionally but it seems like about the last 10 years or so they have really peaked.
My parents live near one of the buildings that frequently host the weekend long events and it is horrible for them. loud bass keeps them up all weekend, then on sunday the ride comes by. they have old delivery vans outfitted with speakers that play music at an unbearably loud level. Then of course everyone throws their trash all over. There is usually one a-hole that rides his horse in our fields instead of staying on the road and often someone just pisses out in the open.
Its a real travesty that they allow this shite to go on. Most of the horses arent in shape to handle the long rides on gravel. most dont even have shoes on. at least a few horses hooves every ride get busted up and cant finish the ride.
shite aggravtes all of my animals that I keep near my parents. I cant wait for the day that there is a big shootout at one of these events. its not going to be much longer I would imagine.
