Still don't think you can retire in 3 years. You're saying you're worth more than five million? That's going to last another 40 years?

you don't need $5M to retire. 25-30x annual spend will work. So if you spend 100k, then 2.5-3M.

eta: both the wife and I will probably have a few side gigs throughout retirement. More to keep us busy than to make money.

I feel better about being financially secure than others. However, having more money often does NOT mean having more financial security for too many people.

So you're about as close to Bellevue as you are downtown Franklin? Love that area. I'm in Sylvan Park. Williamson Co schools are consistently in the top rankings in the country. It's about the only place I can think of off the top of my head where you can get the equivalent of a private school education at a public school. If it were up to me, I'd live off of Granny White/Old Hickory. Close enough to the city, close enough to downtown Franklin, and you are able to still have you're on piece of land. It's just expensive, obviously. The topography is a major appeal as well.

Correct. Closer to Bellevue/BelleMeade area.

Private school education at a public school price. Yeah you pay for it in real estate but at least you get your money back and write off the interest in real estate.

That's a good area as well. A little more pricey and a little busier than my spot. But Williamson County west of 65 checks off about as many boxes as one can imagine regarding quality of life IMO.

You don't think you're going to spend more in retirement with a less organized schedule than when you're working? You plan on living the same as you are now?

You're not that bright are you? If the gentlemen has little to no debt and $5MM making 3% annually he literally could live out his days never touching the $5MM principle.

Baw, learn something.

We have budgeted for about a 30% increase in spending post retirement.

I think people really underestimate expenses.

Taxes, assessments, health insurance, etc.

You really need to calculate your nut, then figure out what you want to spend.

“I wanted to be a somebody in the eyes of myself and others,” he wrote. “But most of all, I wanted money. Why? Because money is freedom. Money means I can wear what I want, live where I want, go where I want, eat what I want, be who I want. Money would make me happy. Right?”

Wrong. He explained: “In fact, money didn’t seem to make any of the bankers happy. Not one person in the roughly 200 I got to know in banking were happy. Yet all earned multiples of the national average salary.”

I feel better about myself because I make good money. It makes me more defiant towards those who look down on me. But I don't think it makes me a better person.

Not sure I'd ever describe not having kids like that. I consider my kids one of my greatest accomplishments.

No, I'm a dumbshit because I'm uncertain whether 150k will be worth much 30 years in the future and provide for a really nice retirement. Five million for that matter as well. I also must be a dumbass because tastes have the potential to get more expensive in people with money. Unexpected expenses, etc. I suppose five million sounds like alot to some folks, in the future, I'm not so certain.
