I remember we had a fig tree in our back yard. Bendy twigs on it. My brother and I did something bad(can't exactly remember what). Mom made us go outside and pick a twig off the fig tree to get spanked with. I remember freaking out and taking like 30 minutes stalling trying to find a twig.

Bring them back to our mom. She gave us both a small tap with our twigs, didn't even hurt. I think she just wanted to scare us into behaving and put the fear of the upcoming punishment in our heads...which worked

It's crazy that you can have a relationship with someone who acted that way. I'm pretty sure I'd just want to beat his arse.

Anytime you have to beat/whip/spank a child it is child abuse. There is no reason to ever have to do it if you have done a good job as a parent from day 1.

Parents can use anything they want; what matters is how hard you hit the kid and the intended effects. If you draw blood you've gone too far. Still wouldn't call it child abuse unless it's repeated.

I think the "everyone gets a trophy" mentality is really what's wrong. You can teach your child about winning and losing, and that you have to work for what you want. That's easy to do, and then they know how to deal with failure and not getting what they want. Now, kids don't know how to deal with the first sign of failure. That's what's wrong. Not spanking a child isn't what's wrong.

There are ways of disciplining your children without spanking. I'm sorry that you can't think of them. Sucks to be you... and your child for that matter.

My elementary school principal used to do something similar. He had a paddle hanging on the wall, and if you were bad enough, you got sent to the principal' office for a spanking. They'd leave you sitting outside his office for 30 freaking minutes before they brought you back. Then he'd take the paddle and smack the shite out of the back of the leather chair you were sitting in. Didn't find out til years later that he couldn't legally spank you.

Research done by liberal gluten free idiots. Our greatest generation of our country where all whipped as kids. Whippings stop and look what happened.

Imagine thinking that was the normal way to grow up. It definitely pissed me off, and there were times where I wanted to beat his arse. But time does heal, and there's something to be said about being able to forgive someone.

My daughter is only 3 right now. But I use time-outs mainly. Usually I just talk to her pretty calmly and she straightens up. I have raised my voice (to sound more stern/serious), and that has had the desired effect. It doesn't always work, but then I put her in her room and wait for her to calm down. A couple minutes later, all is good.

People can say what they want: you and I know firsthand the destructiveness of hitting your kids. Cheers brother

Ask my child if they deserved every whipping they had and if they didn't deserve mOre. I never whip them as the only punishment there's ton of tactics to Take. But to say a whipping isn't warranted at any time in a child's childhood is simply asinine. I do agree with the everyone gets a trophy and no score is kept bull shite.

I'll also say she's had her meltdowns while I was at a store/restaurant with her in the past. But I tell her if she doesn't stop whatever behavior it is at the time, we'll just leave. And she didn't stop, so I just picked her up and left. She screamed and cried like a banshee because she didn't want to leave. But I didn't let that stop me. She got the point after this happened about 2 times, and she's never had a meltdown like that again.

Not child abuse if the kid is just spanked with an extension cord. Maybe it was the first thing the parent could get her hands on.

I can't see an extension cord hurting any worse than a belt, brush, coat hanger, razor strap, switch, etc.

Some women need stuff like that for the sting effect because they aren't strong enough to whip a 8 yr old

Men, you don't need that. I'll bust any of my kids arse with my hand at any moment if they purposely do something just because.......

I think anytime you hit a child period, it's abuse.

I say that if it comes to this, that child has been failed in some way in the past.
