Do you consider Baton Rouge a college town?

I think of the following locales as more legitimate college towns:

Athens, GA
Madison, WI
Boulder, CO
Ann Arbor, MI

Baton Rouge and other cities with populations over 200,000 are too large and dilute the small town college feel. Even Lafayette is considerably smaller than Baton Rouge and doesn't have a college town feel to it either.

Are some cities just made perfectly to be a true college town?

They should never have moved LSU from Pineville.

That would have been crunk if LSU had stayed in Pineville.

How so? Why Pineville? I don't care for the part of the state that Pineville is located in. Seems hard to get to from a logistical standpoint.

Idk, but Baton Rouge was just made perfectly to be a shitty town.

Athens has like 130k people. A college town to me is near 50k with half the population going to school.

You're 100% correct. The geographical center of the state, located on a large waterway and on the rail lines, makes no sense for the location of the flagship university of the state.

What do you think BR would be like if LSU wasn't there?

Maybe not Pineville but just someplace more rural than BR. Being in the middle of nowhere gives a big state school like LSU a lot more mystique.

Jackson, MS or Montgomery, AL. Which is to say, Hell.

East Montgomery is nice. Not to mention, it's so close to Atlanta. Way better than Jackson.

Why are you so controversial?

I'm just echoing sentiments shared by many on here. Y'all act like I'm the only one that has voiced the opinion that BR sucks.

But you can have your thread back Paul, I'll leave

She's right in that it combines a state capitol, a large, flagship university, a decent-sized business community, and a major interstate bisecting it.

Not a slam on BR, but it is too "small" of a city to have that much going on. Katrina didn't help this situation a bit, either.

Not enough roads for too many people...

No it isn't

that being said, there is a definitely distinct college part of it.

LSU and the area around it is pretty nice, but BR is too big a city for it to be considered a college town.
