Do you change your home air filters as often as recommended?

I try to squeeze an extra couple of months from my filters that are supposed to last three months as long as the airflow remains good. I figure the trapped particles will block any later arriving particles.

ETA:. I do a toilet paper test to check the airflow

I try to change them every two months in the late spring/summer/early fall hotter months when it runs a lot, then every three months during the late fall/winter/early spring.

So, 5 changes a year instead of the recommended 6. My wife works from home so the AC runs a lot during the hotter months.

I put a reminder on my phone to change the two for ours every 3 months. Sometimes I'm a week late getting around to it.

Every 30 days unless I do something like drywall work then I change it after the project is done.

Air filters are cheaper than A/C work. Change regularly, way before 3 months in Louisiana.

I was told by some HVAC guy to get the cheap ones. I just vacuum those out once a month, and replace every 6.

I never adjust ours whether someone is home or not. Maybe when we go out of town. I haven't found it to really make much difference in our electric bill.

This is my theory. It's about $20/year to keep a clean filter in. Well worth the piece of mind.

I buy 6 month filters and change them on time. My best friend is an HVAC tech so he doesn’t let me forget or I would probably never change them.
