Sometimes, often it's an illusion.
I can't tell you how many times my gf has made such a comment, and then a week, month, year later, they're getting divorced, the family business goes under, she hears about an affair or something.

Sounds like your witch girlfriend needs to keep her mouth shut.

Yes.. One guy in particular. This guy I knew growing up. He and I are cool, but this dude was the kid that always had the newest toy when it first came out. He was several years older than me but when he was in HS, he was the type of guy who everyone wanted to be friend's with and his friends would do anything he wanted just to make sure they stay friends with him..
Right after he graduated HS he got into some pretty serious trouble.. Anyone else, it would have probably taken them awhile to get back on their feet. Dude got out of it and went on to have a successful job in the medical industry.
Maybe 10-12 years of working at one place he got fired (not sure why), but a few months later he finds himself at a better job making more money somewhere else.Being at that job for years he was busted doing something that everyone who knows him, assumed he would go to jail for... He lays low for about a year, never saw jail and since he couldn't do what he was doing before (he had his certifications revoked) his parents gave him money to open up his own business.. And evidently he is doing good.
You think that at some point it will catch up with him, he falls hard but always ends up right back on his feet.. with no problem.

I echo the sentiment about envying people and not know what may be going on in their lives. I recall going to the airport to attend some useless business trip and hearing Jim Valvano on the radio yukking it up with another sports radio host. I thought 'What a sweet life gig Valvano has". How did that turn out?

There's no such thing as luck.

I still can't get over how many people that frequent the OT have 7 figures in their checking account and run a 4.4 forty. This truly is a impressive collection of individuals.

I have a theory that I cannot be killed by chance.
I've had so many near death experiences that I can't even remember them all. My last one, which involved flipping so many times I lost count has led me to believe my life is waiting for a single moment. :

why wouldn't you just be like, wow good for them. Instead you're wondering how they have good fortune.
Because there is nothing wrong in wondering about how the world works.

Some of it is perception from the outside, but Warren Buffet and Bill Gates both agree that opportunity is likely the most important factor in success of any kind, along with the abilities to both recognize and take advantage of it when presented.
In some respects I've been blessed, but I also feel sometimes that I have had about an equal share of hardships. Ex. I have overheard men talking about my girlfriends and wives in awed reverence, but also endured difficulties in those relationships and ultimately divorces. Things aren't always as rosy as they may appear from the outside. But I consider myself an expert at minimizing the bad and concentrating on the good. Life is hard and then you die, so enjoy the enjoyable part.
But what I really want to know is how in the frick did Ric Ocasek get with Paulina Poritzkova? (Guess guys have voiced the similar question about me, actually, but I wasn't as goofy looking as him, so the answer obviously is that money and a big penis are the trump cards at least with women.)
