Maybe English majors but most engineering and science phds are usually working outside of academia even if they are teaching.

PhDs are for people who want to spend 9 years in school, rack up a shite ton of debt, get a crappy teaching job and then bitch about conservatives, traditional Judeo Christian values and how little money they all personally make.

Eh, we all understand that, with you being the final OT boss of, "above the fray centrists," that you'll be purposely coy and obtuse, but the assertion that PHd's (which are almost always employed by career academia) are overwhelmingly left leaning is not some subjective opinion.

It's quite literally a statistical fact.

But go off.

In trying to put me in my place, you've stepped in shite. Are you going to respond to the others asking for quite literally statistical facts, or be purposely coy and obtuse?

Idk, my PhD aunt and uncle just bought a 7k sq ft house with an indoor pool.

A lot of people do very well in academia and other industries with a PhD.

"Much of this advantage has come among adults with post-graduate experience; currently, 56% lean Democratic while just 36% lean Republican. Among those who have received a college degree but have no post-graduate experience, the gap is much narrower: 48% identify as Democrats or lean Democratic, while 43% affiliate with the GOP or lean Republican."
It goes further to explain that of the, "independents" ("centrists"), the majority vote democrat. PEW research

From the National Communication Association of political affiliations of tenured college professors (i.e., PHds)

And that's just in academia. The numbers bear out the same for PHd holders not in academia. According to another PEW poll, at most, 10% identify as Republican, while, at a minimum, 50% identify as Democrat, while the remaining "independents" largely lean Democrat in their voting tendencies.

The fact that you question the validity of the factually sound statement that more PHd holders in career academics (which mirror the political affiliations of PHd holders in private industry) are democrat as opposed to Republican is laughable - and that's fine that they are, it's not surprising in the least, and I don't know why it would be for you. To deny that is denying statistical reality, let alone the results of their students regarding their political worldviews after they graduate from the universities that employ those career academics. Anecdotally, nearly all of my professors were left-of-center on the business side, and the majority were on the engineering side as well. It is what it is.

"Put you in your place"? What are you, a child? You mean calling you out on your babyback bullshite? You got any more of those racist gifs you want to post up in retort to my answer above?

My assertion, with provable, quantifiable data, is simple: You are wrong. The majority of PHd holders are democrat and vote democrat, even among "independents."

Now it's your turn: Prove my assertion wrong.

What’s your definition of normal? Fat guys who peaked in high school, drink every day, cry after LSU losses, and sell propane services for a living?

My stepbrother was doing an MD/PhD program. He finished the PhD but ended up going to rehab before getting the MD. He also sells his used underwear online to other men

I have one in engineering. The other people I know with Ph.D.'s definitely tend to run on the interesting side personality-wise but are generally well adjusted. I only know of one guy out of the dozens from school that went to academia. The vast majority in my field are working in areas related to defense, aerospace, or technical software.

My career day speech is that you don't do a Ph.D. because you want to make a boatload more money, you do it because you want an interesting career. Opportunity cost of being in school for that long vs making money for six to eight years is real. You do get free tuition and a stipend typically for engineering though.
