Do men still keep diaries, memoirs, etc?

Been on WWII documentary watching kick here lately. And it's amazing how much they know about Hitler and his inner circle because of their diary entries.

Got me to thinking that alot of historical knowledge is supported by things like that.

Probably similar to our work calendar's. I put all my shite on there.

I've seriously thought about starting one.

I know it's a macabre thought, but what if I get Alzheimer's? I'd like to have a way to ensure my kids know who I really was.

I have a work calendar. I don't put my feelings on politics, other people, love life, life goals, etc on there.

Ha. I agree. But someone 100 years from now could piece together our daily activities from our calendars

I have a book I write in occasionally. Not everyday. Sometimes weeks go by between entries. I just write down thoughts on family, country, life, quotes, excerpts, current events, etc. My future generations can do as they please with it but hope they read it, write their own thoughts, and pass it on.

I believe in the concept of a journal, but these days, anything you write down will eventually be held against you.

People in our time are obsessed with your private information and feel they have a right to it. Especially if they can leverage it to their advantage. It’s one of the things that really sucks about modern society. No boundaries. No respect for privacy.

My husband keeps one of those 5 year one minute journals, but I have no idea how often he keeps up with it.

You must lead a sad life if you can't keep a journal without constantly worrying about people reading it

They are 10 and under - things will be much different when they are adults and have their own kids.

My dad died when I was young, and I have never wished he was still around more than I do now in my mid 30's.

Tell you what... you start keeping a journal, and you come back and post here in about three days when someone has read it.

If you live with other people, I guarantee that they will read it. No matter how innocuous it may be.

I write occasionally in Field Notes/Moleskines when we travel and during big events.

It's not like deep thoughts, just summaries of places we go and stuff we see. I like having records of little shops and bars and restaurants we've been to. I also think it'd be cool if my parents/grandparents had that type of stuff to pass along, so hopefully my kids will feel the same.

Likely our times won't be as interesting as prior generations (depression, WWII, 60s/civil rights) but I suppose you never know what'll seem interesting years from now.

The only thing similar that I keep would be a journal where I write the details of many of my hunting trips (i.e. weather, who hunted, location, what we killed, etc.). I am not sure there is a point to it, but it is kind of cool to go back and read about how different things were just 20 years ago.
