Ever been to Strawberry Fest in Ponchatoula?

Do Horse Racing Tracks Attract The Most Degenerates?
quote:A notable exception. Made the scene up there once. The fairy-tale atmosphere as seen on TV is no exaggeration. It is a magnificent environment. Truly, a shrine to the sport.
And Saratoga again since my last trip unexpectedly turned into a working vacation where I only saw the races we were in, the training track and barn area, and the test barn It was Whitney weekend, too

Well the OP goes to a race track and stays downstairs all night where all they sell is nachos and shitty draft beer! Of course he was surrounded by degenerates.
If he’d have wheeled himself to the elevator and gone upstairs, he’d have probably found a better mix of people. Just like most any other track.
Being surprised that the people there were of low quality is a bit like being surprised by the number of pot heads at a Dead concert.

First time I went to Churchill I was shocked at what a dump it was.

quote:Yes and no. Yes - it's shoulder to shoulder with the surrounding neighborhood and not as glamorous as you're lead to believe. They hide that fact well on TV. But then you realize you're at Ground Zero of all the folklore you've watched since you were a kid - especially when you walk through the paddock and the tunnel. Went twice - once for Spend A Buck's derby and once in mid-week - with almost nobody there. In all honesty, it was pretty cool to just sit there on a quiet day and let the history sink in...
