Last night I started a similar thread, but it got anchored.. Probably because of the subject line..

But last night I went to Evangeline Downs with a group of friends. We had a good time drinking, cutting up, etc, but there had more degenerates there than I have ever seen there.

Last night was their big night and Arsenio Hall was performing. In the past, when I have gone there we were always in the Club House, but last night there were no spots available so we were on the ground. I swear, after every race, there were people all around who had the "I just lost all the money I had" look on their face.

No, that would be music festivals.

Anybody want to buy my Bonnaroo tickets?

It has been years.. Why? Does it bring out some of the finest people South La has to offer?

It's the trashiest thing I've seen outside of the Tarpon Rodeo in Grand Isle (which I love btw).

I've never made it up to Bawcomville so I'll reserve judgement until I can make the trip up there.

In Oct, where I live there is the "Acadian Festival". It brings out people who honestly, probably waits all year to go to this thing. They probably pick and sell pecans and collect cans in order to get as much money as possible for this thing.. And since they are the same people you see out trick or treating, we call them "the octo-people" because they come out two times a year, both times in October.

I don't like to judge people, but the people I am talking about here (the degenerates at the race track and "octo-people") are the type of people you just wonder "how the hell do they live like that".

A buddy of mine was there to watch their FG Racing club mare in the 5th race. He is a media credentialed turf writer and said he remembers why he hasnt been there in years. ..." a dump and had to watch the races in casino lounge because there is no grandstand"

Like I said, last night was a different experience than any other time I have gone in the past. I usually like it, but last night we couldn't really get in one spot and stay. We started off in one spot and as someone got up to go bet or do whatever, there was someone waiting to take a seat and there were a lot more kids running around than usual..

I never had a problem with anyone and for the most part everyone is friendly and respectful, but as for as cursing and all that, last night there were a few times when there was shouting with a lot of curse words..

It doesn't bother me at all, but there were some people in a certain area that was following other races (they had the races from Santa Anita and somewhere else) and that crowd was getting a little rowdy...

It would take 100 years of combined incidents to make a country music festival half as dangerous as a single rap "concert"
