i'm of the belief that the Lorax is true so there is that. and yes i believe in other species and evolution. Changes in us are coming at longer intervals because we have almost reached our maximum potential. New evolutionary changes will take much longer. A book written generations after and event is not trustworthy, and for the most part are simply written as a way to control the people.

C'mon man...you've been here for a decade. You telling me you've never taken part in any of those?

They used to be really common back on the Poliboard when that place wasn't such a toilet and it was possible to have differing opinions and not just get shouted down.

But yeah...I prefer to let them out themselves, but there are definitely more than a handful here who are either straight up Young Earthers or variations on that theme.

As someone who is drawn to evolution threads like a moth to a flame I can tell you that I've seen many creationist arguments on this board. They usually don't come right out and own it, though. They're "just asking questions".

Not sure if the OP is an Atheist, but those folks tend to equate any level of belief in Christianity to Fundamentalism and Creationism.
The irony being that this makes them more absolutist and ignorant than the people they are looking down on.

Again- not sure of OP's beliefs, but he/she clearly doesn't understand the concept of Faith and/or the more evolved notion of God that the majority of modern Christians tend to hold

Yes. But I’m not a denier. Not sure if anyone here who is.

Here’s a post from DannyB from earlier this month:
quote:

I was made in God's image, not evolved from a monkey. Wow! They look similar to a human so we must have come from them...LOL If you truly believe that shite then why has no other primate in history developed logic, a conscience, a pull towards a higher power, and language. Also, why are humans not still evolving? Also, while your at it go frick one and see if your DNA is compatible. God made each animal and man to only be able to procreate with its own kind. A watermelon is 98% water. The human body is 60% water. Does that mean we are part watermelon, too?

So pretty much a complete misunderstanding of evolution

I guess the philosophical debate would be at what point did apes become “sentient” for lack of a better word. When was the transition from ape to human?

When did the soul first enter the human body?

I would say that once a being has a soul, they are subject to the creator who gave them their soul.

I guess I’d compare it to the opinion most Christians have about infants and small children.

No we don't. At all.

Then we could use you on our side as roughly 40% of Christians in America do not believe in evolution

And before you use the term "intelligent design" be forewarned that's merely a rehashed term used by creationists to get around the Edwards V Aguillard case from the late 80's.

Well these other species of humans aren't apes. I wonder if Christians believed they had souls

I agree. That's a much more interesting conversation than debating creationists, which has more of a train wreck quality.

Evolution is still taking place in humans. Wisdom teeth are a perfect example of this.

No, there are no other human species. God Almighty will not judge anyone. Christ will be the judge. Are we supposed to take your pics as evidence they existed?

You need to wise up and accept Christ before it's too late.

Sorry...I just needed to comment on this again because it's just so incredibly wrong.

One of the most vocal and respected voices in regards to teaching evolution for the past 15 years has been Kenneth Miller. Miller was one of the authors of the science textbook in question during the Dover school district court case from about a decade ago. He's a tremendous science educator and a wonderful advocate for teaching evolution.

He's also a DEVOUT Roman Catholic. there is no incompatibility between his faith and his understanding of the science...and because of that, we mean old atheists respect the hell out of him. Sure, we don;t agree with his view point on the nature of god/s but I respect the fact that he teaches what is known.

I mean...I have his book, "Only a Theory" three feet form my desk as I type this out.

The problem is, guys like Miller aren't common, even though their faith is not an issue for accepting evolution. these discussions start taking place and as soon as an atheist jumps in it seems to make it impossible for a religious person to stay focused and remain with the correct side that is fighting for teaching evolution. It's how you end up with Catholics spouting "intelligent design" thinking it means one thing when instead it has a VERY specific meaning, and it's not what they actually believe.

When it comes to evolution, if you want it taught correctly, we're your ally, not our enemy. We get tired of fighting this fight alone even though we agree.
