D.L. Hughley Show - Washing Chicken

If this is Germans, I apologize in advance.
-
I was driving from Lafayette to BTR and I caught a snippet of D.L.’s show.
The show interviewed people who had an opinion on washing their chicken before cooking.
Between 80-90 percent of the callers washed their chicken before cooking and explained why.
Allegedly there was a CDC blip about not having to wash chicken before cooking.
I could have been trolled, I dont know.
I was laughing my arse off at all the responses.
For example (paraphrasing): “Yes, I wash my chicken. I don’t care what the CDC says, white people been trying to kill us for what, 50 years now?”
(Paraphrasing) “Yes I wash my chicken but I don’t know the hell why, it’s not like that little water gonna do anything”
Obliviously TLDR but my question is, do people actually wash chicken before they cook it?
I have never but I’m wondering is this debate even real?
Move to Food Board, as necessary.

This is definitely a thing in most black households.

Wow. shite, I really wished I had known for the sake of sociology.
But I’m damn glad I didn’t know beforehand because I guess I wouldn’t have been laughing so hard.
Blissful ignorance.

What about red meat? Do people wash that too?
How do you know?

I don’t know about red meat but I would guess they don’t wash that. It usually isn’t packaged with as much “slime”.
I know this from directly asking people.

I pretty much wash everything before I cook it...food processing facilities are some damn nasty places.

Yeah, I heard ‘slime’, ‘blood’ and ‘small feathers’ in the interviews and I still wondered why that mattered.
Do you wash your chicken before cooking and why/why not?

I rinse mine. Is that considered washing it?

My mom is latina and she always washed the chicken off before she cooked it.

I wash fish, including shellfish but I have never washed poultry, lamb, or red meat.

In my opinion, rinsing is not washing because washing infers scrubbing or a detergent or something more.

I wash it all. I wash all my vegetables too even the ones I grow.

This is one of the most blatantly racist programs i have ever heard on any radio station.

I don’t give a good goddamn what it’s agenda is, as long as I’m laughing my arse off so as not to be super pissed off in traffic.

Damn, son...triggered the frick out of you!

I rinse all my food, not necessarily wash as what some people may do. Chicken, red meat, veggies, etc. Dont ask me why. That's what my mom taught me so Im just doing as she said.

I don’t want to sidetrack your thread but this reminds me of something that happened to me a few years ago. I was at a party hosted by some jackass pool contractor from Abita Springs. He was really proud of his chicken wings that he was grilling so I watched what he was doing with them. He produced a deep tray of marinated chicken wings, put them on the grill, cooked them, and then returned them to the tray of marinade to be served. I told Mrs. Popeil to absolutely not eat anything at this guy’s party. I pissed in his pool and we left.

I do not rinse my cleaned fish at all. They only get hosed off before I clean them. I am very careful not to get guts and slime on my filets. If you wash it the meat it begins to break down. All you are washing off is fish juice. The inside of the filet has fish juice that you can’t rinse off.
