Funny you should say that to him. Yale was the only school I applied to that didn't offer admission (wait listed and then non-admitted). And I had with a pretty solid package and a decent GPA (3.8ish) coming out of BRMHS.

If you really got a 30 in Reading, you should be able to boost your Science score to something similar.

Unless things have changed, the Reading and Science sections are the same thing.

You sound like me. I did 32 and 31 in reading and English. 21 in math. Something low (I can't remember) in science because it was experiments and I wasn't to be bothered reading them -- that is how much I hated science back then.

Eh.. I'm pretty sure the reason I said frick it to the science section was because the first few I attempted were difficult for me.

A buddy of mine in high school made a 19, took act prep and made a 26.

I only took it once. Wanted a 30, but got a 25 and got into any state college in LA with TOPS, so I never tried again (regret that). I took it the very first time I was allowed to. I think the 30+ was possible. I didn't study at all and actually did poorly on the math section. My pre-act (was invuted to take this for some reason) score in math was perfect and I graduated in engineering with no math issues. Just had a bad test day. Was the first real "long" test I ever took. Unless you really gave it your all with a few months of cramming during your senior year, I wouldn't sweat it.

Check out Princeton Review my daughter works for them and teaches how to improve their test scores.

16 in math - just mentally quit halfway through and didn't bubble in rest of the answers.

If this is true. You can raise your score very easily. Work on the math and nothing but the math. Work your butt off. You got this.

I don't believe this crap. This is what people say when they don't like their overall score. On second thought the other poster was right. Your future does look bleak.

How does a career as a plant worker sound?

I'm not too surprised. I didn't know it then but admission to those schools coming from poor, uneducated states in the south is actually a bit more lenient than their graduate schools.

They don't get nearly as many applicants from MS, AL, LA. Shocking I know

Took my first crack at the ACT and and scored a 24. With studying can i lift my score up to a 30? Or is the ACT pretty accurate on determining your level with 1 sample?

I got a 26 first, then a 26, then a 32. I didn't really do much prep, but I don't think I had trig or chemistry yet for either of the 26's.

I didn't have a chance to bubble in my last 10 because time ran out and he took away our tests. Why god?

Which is one reason why I was counting on getting in. Didn't happen.

Bummer.

My parents weren't too involved with my college admissions.

Hence I didn't want to go to a MS school, saw a big stadium in Baton Rouge, got a scholarship and the rest was history.

No way I let my kid go at it the way I did

Take it as many times as you can. It was a very different test when I took it back in the '80s. But the first time I took it I had time management problems. Got a 26. Took it a couple more times and got it up to a 30 - and in those days a 30 was in the top couple percent (pre-'89 ACT equates to an IQ test, and I think a 29 qualified you for MENSA). The other times I took it I just breezed right through it and couldn't imagine why I struggled with time on the first try. I did NO preparation for the test to boost my score - it was just a matter of being comfortable with the test.. Take it as often as you can. You can definitely raise your score that much.

And you now spend your life on TD. Something went terribly wrong along the way.

Since this is the OT, I'm assuming you are in 7th grade taking the ACT as part of the Duke talent search thing. You can score a 30+ once you hit high school. Unless you are hung over, which is the common refrain from any OTers who didn't score 30+ on the ACT.
