Really, you’re making Poland a positive example? No country in Europe hasn’t gotten fricked over as much as the Poles.

I bet he completely ignored the fact that democrats have completely eliminated almost all basic election integrity laws in this country and republicans don't have the balls to force a basic audit in their states.

I didn't try to make those characterizations, because everyone makes perverse justifications when they compromise their principles. It's easier to have consistent principles, but the hard choices are for applying those principles evenly. From what I remember, they believed they were just applying the letter of the law. But the early noughts were a weird time. Everyone was beying for blood, and the anti-war movement meant nothing in the end, even though many of the arguments against the Iraq War turned prescient. It was a deeply disillusioning time.

I've been called much worse, and you haven't offended me even once. Kinda seems like I've gotten under your skin, though, which is sad.

Man, you have some anger issues combined with some weird sexual fantasies. Take it easy, it's just a message board.

The “2 weeks” of shutdowns that individuals like you supported, continue to support, and want to strengthen over the previous 1.5 years has jaded individuals like myself and OML as to the type of people our fellow citizens truly are.

The Hungarians have gotten fricked hard for a long time as well. The Soviets and the EU have caused them to turn their country into a giant middle finger.

Quite the opposite. Right-wingers have pointed toward Poland and Hungary as paragons of their burgeoning replacement-theory ideology. I see Poland as a very negative example and that was the point. I guess that went over your head.

"I fully support their autonomy, and their authoritarian measures to keep their people safe"

TxTiger82.

After all, they 're only doing it for "safety" purposes.

Yea I'm not impressed by you guys, either. Very plaintive and entitled, IMO.

Ever since the post-9/11 fallout from the invasion, anyone who wasn’t a bureaucratic, brown-nosing sycophant left the federal agencies for private corporations.

This “decimation” resulted in a system where those who truly wanted to do good were outnumbered by the bureaucrats.

Of course you view these nations that decide to preserve themselves rather than turn themselves over to the whims of faceless, unelected bureaucrats who have no objective other than personal power and wealth as "bad people".

Man what happened to you? Time to frame the old jersey and hang it on the wall. Sit down in the easy chair with a Tom Collins and reminisce about the glory days.

The beltway bureaucrats are the real movers and shakers of any administration. The power dynamic is screwed up.

What you’re saying is by definition is removing my constitutionally protected liberties.

quote:

This point was established pages ago, when I asserted that state and local governments do have the explicit constitutional power to protect public health and welfare.

All the state owes me is protecting me from rapists, murderers, theft, protect the country from foreign invasion, and the basic civil liberties. And welfare under whose standards? Yours? The Pentecoastals? Radical Islamists?

I suggest reading your state's constitution before crying about liberty. Maybe take it up with your state representative and push for an amendment instead of accusing me of taking your liberty.

The level of evil and arrogance. You have all the hallmark mentalities of histories greatest villains.

Thank you for illustrating my point. You want to complain about civil liberties here, but you lionize Poland as a shining example of the way forward. External agencies have documented the observable decline in civil liberties in both Poland and Hungary, not to mention Turkey, the Philippines, Brazil, and India. These countries are now celebrated in the right without a hint of irony.

Well, in Hungary's case, they have to provide safety and freedom to the millions of illegal immigrants who cross into their country and drain their economies, because those people need to be protected. Hungarians need to stop being selfish and do what's best for the EU, not just themselves. It's just like the people that won't get the vaccine! They're being selfish by choosing to make decisions about what's best for themselves!

In general, I got tired of a bunch of pussies who use the government as their bludgeoning weapon. The best part of it is you'll never control anyone, not even your family.

You're dependent.

That must be why you continue objecting to correctly being called a facist, and can’t stand when I point out you’re dumb enough to think you’re the most intelligent person in this thread.

Really? Where at, exactly? Was it when you were too afraid to follow-up to how I feel “threatened” by you? Or when you got upset when I pointed out you’re apparently not capable of protecting your family?

To provide a specific, concrete example, the V-Dem Institute reclassified Hungary as a non-democracy for the first time since the fall of the Soviet Union.

Poland isn't far behind them.
