re: Dine and dash is on the rise, should it be punishable by death?

I used to wait tables in college. When I worked at Chili’s, the manager would just void the ticket if someone dine and dashed. However, when I worked at a well-known local BR establishment, if someone walked out on your tab, you had to pay for it personally.
Usually the other servers would chip in to cover the cost. It sucks, but only happened to me once thankfully. It’s not as easy as “keep an eye on your section”. These people were seated near the entrance and specifically asked me to get them to-go boxes and all of their drinks to go knowing it would take me a minute in the kitchen.

I tried to 'dine and dash' at a party I had catered at my house. Really dumb plan.

This is actually illegal.

yea, i do... but lots of times i want to fuel up, and then come in and do some shopping to get ice, beer, snacks, dream catchers, dvds, incense and maybe a butterfly knife or 2 and pay for it all in one lick like the good ole days

I thought this was going to be another thread about shagging out after getting communion and not waiting for announcements and dismissal.

When I waited tables I once had a party of 6 canadians and when they were leaving they asked me to get them 6 to-go strawberry lemonades and 6 to go boxes. I knew something was fishy and sure enough they dine and dashed once I went back to the kitchen. They came back about a month later and tried the same shite but this time I had my manager watch them
Also in college I was waiting tables and I had a party of 50 canadians, not just any canadians but really gangster like ghetto ones, anyway shared the table with another waiter. It was such a disaster, half of the table bailed when the check came leaving a group of about 5 honest ones who stayed behind and were trying to pay for the $930 tab between the 5 of them.

When I waited tables years ago in BR I never had anyone dine and dash outright. But, more than once I had a group of homemade lemonade drinkers specifically ask for separate tickets. Demand separate tickets. Then when I would come back they would be gone and a pile of cash on the table with all the tickets underneath and not enough cash would be there to cover it and by the time you count it all and organize it they are long gone.

Thieves are up there with murderers and child predators. Nothing worse than someone stealing what someone else worked to create. If you use your most valuable resource (time) to create something and someone steals it that is very close to killing someone in my book. You cannot get time back once it is gone.
