Four of us, three boys, one girl. In the 80s and into the 90s my parents always had one of those old two-tone suburbans where the middle seat folded flat.

My sister sat on the front seat with my parents, us three boys in the back with the middle seat down like it was a play pen. I can't remember ever actually wearing a seat-belt, I assume it had them though.

No. They were those things that would burn the hell out of your legs when you sat on them as a kid. Hard to believe it now, but we seriously never wore them. If you did, people would probably look at you strange for doing so.

Speaking of seal belts-----how many of you are old enough to remember this move by the driver of the car when having to stop fast.

They'd reach over with their right arm and place it in front of their passenger to try to make sure they didn't fly forward in case of impact.

It's a carryover from my youth that I still find myself doing if I make sudden, unexpected stops.

Old habits die hard I guess.

My mother was an expert at the old throw your arm out in front of your kid method.

Not only was it the norm but we rode in the open trailer of my grandfathers pick up truck from NO to Biloxi throwing our food rappers and bags out on the highway. Littering was totally acceptable back then. We also smoked in airplanes and hitch hiked all over the state. Good times!
